Newton's First Law Of Motion
<view this essay>.... a body is at
rest or in uniform motion this is called inertia. Let's say that someone parks
a car on a flat road and forgets to put the vehicle into park. The car should
stay in that spot. This state of being is called inertia. All of a sudden the
wind picks up or some kid crashes into the car with a bike. Both the wind and
the kid's bike crashing into the bike are unbalanced forces. The car should
start to move. The car might accelerate to two miles per hour. Now we would
all assume that the car would come to a stop sometime. We assume this because
it is true. It is true because there is friction between the tires and the road.
The car now has inerti .....

Religion & Evolution
<view this essay>.... of mankind rather than blindly accepting faith-filled beliefs we may received from our parents as children. Perhaps it is because we live in a nation filled with many peoples of different beliefs whose Gods are all so varied and different that it is difficult to fathom that they are all the same divine being. It is also plausible that we just have a desire to quench the thirst for knowledge that lies deep within ourselves. As for myself, I cannot believe in a being which created a universe and a multitude of worlds in a rather short period of time then deigns to lower itself into becoming a puppet-master and "pulling the strings" of the Earth and all of the .....

Hanta Pulmonary Syndrome
<view this essay>.... hours.
This disease, although not new, has experienced a large re-emergence in the southwestern United States and Mexico due to the arid climates in those areas. Cases have been spread all over the western U.S. with even a few in the east, but nearly half of the cases to date have been in the Four Corners area. In a dry area, the disease’s incubation is somewhat longer, making the chances of contracting it somewhat higher. In places such as woodpiles and sheds where there is little air circulation to move off the virus, it can linger for a sizeable duration of time.
The best method of fighting the hanta virus is prevention. By controlling the rodent p .....

Surface Tension
<view this essay>.... not floating: if pushed through the surface, it sinks through
the water. More specifically, the tension is the force per unit length of any
straight line on the liquid surface that the surface layers on the opposite
sides of the line exert upon each other. The tendency of any liquid surface is
to become as small as possible as a result of this tension, as in the case of
mercury, which forms an almost round ball when a small quantity is placed on a
horizontal surface. The near-perfect spherical shape of a soap bubble, which is
the result of the distribution of tension on the thin film of soap, is another
example of this force; surface tension alone can support .....

Biotechnology In Food
<view this essay>.... GE seeds, as well as half of Canada's canola crop. He could have added the vast acreages of genetically modified (GM) cotton, corn and potatoes growing in North America this year. Such crops are expected to triple in use worldwide in the next few years, he writes.
The projections quoted by Prof. Mitchell may not materialize. The European Union will not accept GM products, and this is causing horrendous marketing problems for North American farmers.
It is becoming obvious we cannot force Europeans to take such products, even though Canada and the U.S. are using the World Trade Organization (WTO) in an effort to do so. Most large European and British supermarket .....

Deinonychus Antirrhopus
<view this essay>.... robust hind legs with its tail rigidly stretched out behind for balance as it attacked its prey. The jaws of its relatively large head were equipped with large, jagged teeth. The three toes of the forelimbs were armed with long, curved claws, one of which earned the animal its name: the second toe bore a 5 in hook -shaped, retractable claw that must have been a formidable offensive weapon. Deinonychus is known from fossil remains found in south central Montana during the 1960’s. It was a carnivorous, bird-like creature with characteristics similar to that of a Velociraptor ( one of the stars from Jurassic Park ). This fearsome beast was quite a ravage hun .....

The Tiger
<view this essay>.... the day a Tiger may rest in the shade, or lie in a quiet pool of
water to escape the heat. Tigers like water, and are very good swimmers.
Northern Tigers undertake long migrations. These migrations occur when epidemics
wipe out the prey populations. This type of migrations happens often.
Temperatures down to -45 degrees Celsius are not harmful and do not dampen their
activities ( Mammals Multimedia Encyclopedia 1990).
Tigers usually live and hunt alone. When they hunt they can leap 5 to 6
or jump as far as 10 meters. Tigers do not usually prey on people, but some do
become man eaters. If a Tiger becomes a man eater it is because of a wound,
weak .....

Effects Of Acid Rain On Water
<view this essay>.... have a pH value of less than 5. One of the most acidic lakes reported is Little Echo Pond in Franklin, New York. Little Echo Pond has a pH of 4.2. Lakes and streams in the western United States are usually not acidic. Because of differences in emissions and wind patterns, levels of acid deposition are generally lower in the western United States than in the eastern United States.
This chart shows that not all fish, shellfish, or their food insects can tolerate the same amount of acid:
Generally, the young of most species are more sensitive than adults. Frogs may tolerate relatively high levels of acidity, but if they eat insects like the mayfly, they may be .....
