Global Warming 3 -
<view this essay>.... (Bates 28).
Today, however, major changes are taking place. People are conducting an inadvertent global experiment by changing the face of the entire planet. We are destroying the ozone layer, which allows life to exist on the Earth’s surface. All of these activities are unfavorably altering the composition of the biosphere and the Earth’s heat balance. If we do not slow down our use of fossil fuels and stop destroying, the forests, the world could become hotter than it has been in the past million years. Average global temperatures have risen 1 degree Fahrenheit over the last century. If carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases continue .....

The Greenhouse Effect
<view this essay>.... The amount of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increased by 0.4 percent each year because
of the massive consumption of fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas.
Another contributing factor is the the amount of forest logged, every second of
the day the area of a football field in trees is cleared by either being logged
or burnt. Two other deadly greenhouse gasses which are entering the atmosphere
even faster than carbon dioxide are methane and chloroflourocarbons, although
they are not as damaging in the long run.
These increases are likely to affect worldwide temperatures
dramatically. In 100 years time the average temperatur .....

The Jovian Planets
<view this essay>.... probably consists of a rocky core of metals, water, ammonia and methane. Usually these cores are about the same size as earth possibly a little larger. It is also possible that Uranus and Neptune’s core is a liquid instead of a solid. also have about the same rotational characteristics and all have rings around them.
Jupiter, the first of , reigns supreme throughout the solar system. Named after the Roman god Jove, the ruler of Olympus; Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and is also the largest planet in the Earth’s solar system. It is 318 times more massive than Earth and is two thirds of the planetary mass in the solar system. Jupiter’s surface, .....

Calories
<view this essay>.... reactions gave off heat. He believed that this heat was some form of fluid, much like water, that carried the heat away from the reaction. (Rothman, 69) Antoine was on the right track; he merely got on the wrong train.
Benjamin Thompson, also an eighteenth century scientist, observed that while drilling through brass with a dull bit he could produce enormous amounts of heat yet not get very deeply into the brass. This led Mr. Thompson to the conclusion that heat was the product of work, not the invisible fluid caloric.
Joseph Black, yet another scientist of the seventeen hundreds, discovered that it took different substances varying amounts of heat to .....

Planting Flowers
<view this essay>.... is one thing flowers love, it is water. Although winters are long, the growth gets underway, it progresses rapidly. "Flowers are vividly colored and last longer than in the western or Midwestern sections do to a predominance of favorable days and cool nights" (Givens 11,13).
What is a wildflower? "A wild flower is a plant that has always been it's own without any human intervention." Native plants "without assistance from a gardener in the area where they originated. Although all native plants are wild, not all wildflowers are natives" (Loewer 6). Where did the non-native flowers come from and how did they get here? "Probably the largest number of p .....

Air Pollution
<view this essay>.... as we
know it to cease.
Air pollution causes a number of health and ecological problems. It
causes health problems like cancer, emphysema, and asthma. It also causes the
depletion of the ozone layer which results in global warming and melting of the
ice caps. Up until the industrial era, the air was fairly clean. The use of
smokestacks and the burning of fuels put many pollutants in the air during this
period of time. The increased use of fossil fuels today also builds on this.
There have been many attempts at stopping air pollution. The Clean Air
Acts were effective for a little while. They made using some polluting
substances illegal. This did not wor .....

Ebola Virus
<view this essay>.... the spread of these infections. If we don't begin to deal with problems like overpopulation and
poverty, we may end up looking back nostalgically on the late twentieth century as a time of health and tranquility. As we show you, in the world of
viruses, we are the invaders (Baddorf, Ourworld.compuserve.com)."
Between the years of 425BC-430BC Athens' population was dramatically reduced when about 300,00 of its inhabitants died from some sickness.
Some people now believe that this great plague was really Ebola.
The first recorded outbreak of the Zaire string of the Ebola virus was in Zaire, in 1976. The doctors didn't know how to treat it and that mean .....

Nuclear Power
<view this essay>.... manipulated by irresponsible journalists and
"sensation-seeking" scientists into thinking that any and all exposure to
radiation is harmful to human health. In this critique I plan on reviewing
some of the major issues brought up by each side and try to show how each
author has distorted or skewed data. Then I plan on giving my
interpretation and opinion on the future of nuclear power.
Dr. Gofman seems to have many confusing ideas about the concept of
nuclear power. First of all he shoots down the government for giving money
to nuclear industries and claims that doing this is "totally inappropriate
for government." I don't know if Dr. Gofman understands t .....
