Gender Roles
<view this essay>.... have been changing rapidly in recent
years, with the changes created both by evolutionary changes in society,
including economic shifts which have altered the way people work and indeed
which people work as more and more women enter the workforce, and by perhaps
pressure brought to make changes because of the perception that the traditional
social structure was inequitable. Gender relations are a part of the
socialization process, the initiation given the young by society, teaching them
certain values and creating in them certain behavior patterns acceptable to
their social roles. These roles have been in a state of flux in American
society in recent y .....

Immigration And Population In America
<view this essay>.... immigrant who declared themselves a
Protestant and “swore allegiance to the British crown” to have the same
rights of any citizen born in America. These policies, known as
naturalization laws, swept through all of the colonies after the Parliament
passed a Naturalization Act in 1740. This Act did not permit Catholics and
Jew to naturalize the colonies. (222)
By 1790, the English accounted for forty-nine percent of the
people in America. They were not the only group of people to be
represented in the colonies. Africans made up nineteen percent of the
population while the Irish and Scots accounted for fifteen percent.
Germany made up seven percent, Dutch .....

Loyalty
<view this essay>.... . This enormous gorilla decides when and where the group travels , feeds , rests and sleeps . The leader is the chief protector of the group . When danger threatens , the others usually slip off , leaving the silverback behind to warn and repel the invader . They rarely fight . Females gorillas may scream at each other - and perhaps even scratch and bite lightly . At such times glare from the silverback is enough to restore the peace . A stare or nudge from the leader also keeps the males behaving . With infants , even the firmest leader is often easygoing . He allows them to pull his hair , punch him , and crawl all over him . Once when a little gorilla l .....

The Advantages Of Stupidity
<view this essay>.... has certain disadvantages. Life isn't a
bowl of cherries. And being stupid doesn't make it any fruitier. Being
stupid can annoy even the most sensitive people. If one acts stupid, and
does it in the wrong crowd, like a group of adults, it will seem more
immature than funny. If one is forced to act stupid while dealing with
lower life forms, for example, high school teachers, one may encounter
barriers such as cruelty and insensitivity, with the utterance of
statements like, "Think with your head straight!" or, "You have a brain,
use it." Yet these are all true, there are still many advantages to
stupidity.
The first advantage is very easy to underst .....

A Discussion On Animal Rights
<view this essay>.... animals their rights.
Psychologists around the world, who have studied nonhuman primates,
argue that these animals possess the capacity to communicate. They go on to
explain that a communication barrier is all that separates humans from animals.
If they bridged that barrier, then humans could talk with animals. Beatrice and
Robert Gardner, two psychologists of the University of Nevada, realized that the
pharynx and larynx of the chimpanzee are not suited for human speech. Since
chimpanzees are far superior to humans in manual dexterity, the Garners decided
to try to teach chimpanzees American Sign Language or Ameslan. The Gardners and
others studied th .....

Gangs
<view this essay>.... the forces of peer pressure, broken families, gang loyalty,
protection, and the media.
First of all, most teens become attracted to gangs by peer pressure and greed.
Estimamates show that forty percent of all gang members joined because their
friends influenced them (Solution for a new year 1996). Teen gangsters will
pressure peers into becoming part of a gang by making it sound glamorous.
Recruiters will often promise popularity in exchange for their loyalty.
Although most gang members find popularity, it often means losing close friends
to rival gangs. Another crucial factor is the need for money. A 6 year old kid,
who is not yet a member, receives imp .....

Why Are There Poor People
<view this essay>.... been on our annual trip to New
York City to see the Christmas play at Radio City. I didn't understand why all
these people kept asking my dad to spare them some change, or why a family was
searching through the dumpster. I asked, "Daddy, why is that man sleeping on
the street?"
My dad spent a long time explaining to me that not everybody had the
same life as our family did. Some kids parents didn't have jobs to go to every
day, or cars to take them wherever they needed to go, and not every family in
the world had breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. He told me that I was
very lucky to have all the things that I had, and that millions of kids in the

Groups In Society
<view this essay>.... in the eyes of the membership (Breakwell, 1983). This paper discusses the notion that minority groups within minority groups find social group identity difficult, in relation to in-group/out-group formations. The first part of this paper will examine claims made by researchers that there are many aspects of minority influence that suggest the operation of an underlying attribution process (Kelly, 1967, Cited in Vaughan and Hogg, 1997, p 138). The second part of the paper provides autobiographical reports made by individuals within minority groups. The third section will outline findings of research, suggesting that the distinction between social and .....
