Bats
<view this essay>.... Though other mammals, like the
flying squirrel seem to fly but actually glide the bat is the only mammal that
can truly fly (Lauber 1).
A Bat’s Body
Due to the great variety of species of bats some characteristics vary
greatly but the Little Brown Bat is a good example of a bat. It has fur on its
body, large naked ears, its rear legs have claws, it has a tail membrane, and
it has the most distinguishing feature of a bat, wings (Lauber 9). The upper
arm of the bat is short while the forearm is very long. The wrist is very
small and from it comes the thumb and the four longer fingers. The thumb is
short and used for climbing or walking. The f .....

Natural History Of The Lamprey
<view this essay>.... of fishes and can sometimes cause serious depredations in fisheries. Their mouths are circular, without jaws and equipped with a piston like tongue that creates suction when the mouth is placed against an object, and the tongue is drawn back. In the inner part of the mouth and the edges of the tongue, there are many small, horny teeth. These are what the lamprey uses to pierce the flesh of fishes. The adult forms of lamprey die soon after spawning and reaching their mature form.
Lampreys mostly live in freshwater streams and seas of temperate and subartic regions throughout the world, except for Southern Africa. The sea lamprey is a marine species. They a .....

Reproduction: A Courting To Nature
<view this essay>.... across the Bavarian lake.
Poor goose. Will she mate with the gander of her dreams? Or will she
trail him for years, laying infertile egg clutches as proof of her
faithfulness? Either outcome is possible in an animal world marked daily
by scenes of courtship, spurning and love triumphant. And take note: these
are not the imaginings of some Disney screen-16 writer. Decades ago Konrad
Lorenz, a famed Austrian naturalist, made detailed studies of Greylags and
afterwards showed no hesitation in using words like love, grief and even
embarrassment to describe the behavior of these large, social birds.
At the same time he did not forget that all romance - a .....

Global Warming 2 --
<view this essay>.... occurring greenhouse gases are
Methane and carbon dioxide. This is the way the Earth keeps itself warm enough for humans to live on it.
The only problem with this is that humans enhance the process even more. Over the past 200 years the emissions of greenhouse gases have been increasing due to the increase in technology that humans have developed (example, factories). These human-induced gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone
depleting substances such as CFCs, also known as Chlorofluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons, and perfluorocarbons. These gases are generated a number of human activities such as fossil fuel combustion, wast .....

Global Warming
<view this essay>.... among humans, their activities and global temperature can be
assessed by making the appropriate measurements and analyzing the data in a way
that shows the connections and their magnitudes. Human population can be closely
estimated and the consequences of their activities can be measured. For example,
the volume of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide emissions is an
indicator of human's energy and resource consumption. An examination of
population size, atmospheric concentrations of these gases and global
temperature relative to time and with respect to each other is presented here to
demonstrate the relations among these factors.

Advanced Green Builder Demonstration House
<view this essay>.... impact of their entire existence in mind. This meant consideration was given to such things as raw materials, manufacturing processes, the transportation of the products, and how they are recycled once their usefulness has ended. Also, due to the extreme urban sprawl, an individual waste water system is used as an alternative to laying new collection pipes. This waste water system is designed to be totally self sufficient in meeting the needs of the occupants of the house. Large metallic cisterns, which store rainwater, are placed near the front of the house in such a way that it creates an entranceway into the house that lets visitors know the occupants .....

Tomatoes
<view this essay>.... sometime during the 16th century. The tomato is now cultivated world-wide in a variety of environments.
The common tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., belongs to an extremely diverse and large family the Solanaceae. Often refered to as the Nightshade family, this family contains many of our commonly cultivated plants (potato, peppers, eggplant, tobacco, petunias, tomatillo) and various weeds (nightshades, jimson weed). It may have been this association with the nightshades which originally led people to believe the tomato to be poisionous. It was therefore fortunate that Miller changed the species name to esculentum which roughly means "edible".

Ozone Depletion In The Antarctic
<view this essay>.... Antarctic, but the one that is regarded as most probable by the scientific community is that the hole was created by man made substances. These substances are chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's). CFC's are found to be emitted into the atmosphere by solvents, refrigerators, and spray can propellants mainly in the Northern Hemisphere. CFC's disperse throughout the stratosphere and breakdown to release chlorine. Chlorine by itself is a very stable compound, but when in the stratosphere it binds to and destroys ozone. This is a cyclic process and therefor means that one chlorine can destroy many ozone molecules (Figure 1.2)
During the winter in the Antarctic the ci .....
