Dulce Et Decorum Est: Analysis Of Military Life
<view this essay>.... with graphic accounts of catastrophic death, destruction, and
terror that one will probably never find in an incentive brochure. Owen's
powerful words are not only a far cry from the positive images that some
associate with the war and dying, but an outcry for human beings to stop
spreading the notion that men and women who die in battle also die in
honor.
Most of the men going off to fight during the World Wars could be
classified as men at all. A person would be oblivious to this fact,
however, if they relied on Owen's descriptive text alone concerning the
way he saw his fellow soldiers in combat while describing his chimera, for
they were "kno .....

In Thomas' poems, "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night," "Fern Hill," and "The Force that Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower," he uses different techniques and language to make each poem more effective to the reader.
Thomas' poem "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" is addressed to Thomas' father, giving him advice on how he should die. The poem is a villanelle, which is a type of French pastoral lyric. Stoutenburg's Reel One: An Analysis
<view this essay>.... between real life and the movies. It
seems as though he would rather be in this dream world of action and
adventure, than that of his own that may be dull and boring. He describes
the movies as, "It was like life, but better" (line 8).
In the second body paragraph, he describes the dullness that he
returns to when the movie is over. "but there wasn't much blue in the
drifts or corners: just white and more white…" (lines 13-15). It feels
that once the movie is gone so is all the excitement in his life, that
through the movies he can explore something that he cannot in real life.
Stoutenburg or the person he is writing about does not seem to wan .....

Byron's Don Juan
<view this essay>.... with the ladies.
Byron was born on January 22, 1788 in London, and the following year he
and his mother moved to Aberdeen, Scotland. His father soon followed, but it
wouldn't be long before he would disappear to France and end up dying in 1791.
It was just as well because his parents never got along very well.
In Lord Byron's early years he experienced poverty, the ill-temper of
his mother, and the absence of his father. By 1798 he had inherited the title
of 6th Baron Byron and the estate of Newstead Abbey. Once hearing this news, he
and his mother quickly removed to England.
All of Byron's passions developed early. In 1803 he had his first
serious a .....

Ode To The West Wind Essay
<view this essay>.... realm. He then goes on to describe the power of the wind through a simile, where he says the leaves "Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing." Again the speaker puts the wind into the non-physical world by describing the wind using words such as "breath", "unseen presence", and "enchanter". At the end of the first stanza, the speaker again talks about the wind, as a celestial being when he describes the wind as a "Wild Spirit" and says this spirit is everywhere. He then comments on the power of the wind when he describes it as a "Destroyer and Preserver." He ends the first part in the fifth stanza with an apostrophe. The speaker speaks to the W .....

William Blake's The Chimney Sweeper
<view this essay>.... sweep. The line that guilelessly lets the reader know exactly what the life of a chimney sweep entails is not told to induce pity; just a simple statement of fact that tells much more than is said, "So your chimneys I sweep & in soot I sleep."(4) The end-result, however, of this line is quite the opposite: the reader is quickly initiated into the dreadful life of being a chimney sweep and all that it entails. The tale goes on, describing "little Tom Dacre"(5) who cried when his blonde head of curls was shaved. The worldly wise narrator is very practical in his manner of comforting little Tom, "Hush Tom never mind it, for when your head's bare/ You know th .....

Maxine Kumin And Her Poetry
<view this essay>.... “life as loose as frogs”, “slag heaps stand
like sentries shot dead”, and “I'm going home with the light hand on the reins”.
Next in her poem, “How It is”, she puts on a blue jacket that belonged
to her recently deceased friend, whom played a major role in her life. By
putting on the jacket, she tries to relive the past by, “...unwind(ing) it,
paste it together in a different collage...”. In this poem, Maxine Kumin, uses
plants to describe her feelings, as in; “scatter like milkweed” and “pods of the
