Capital Punishment
<view this essay>.... out of the death penalty as cruel and
unusual punishment. But the court left open the possibility that the death
penalty might be imposed for certain crimes and if it was applied according to
clear standards.
After this decision was made, new capital punishment laws were made to
satisfy the Supreme Court's requirements. These laws limit the death penalty to
murder and to other specified crimes that result in a person's death. These
crimes include armed robbery, hijacking, and kidnapping.
Many countries, including most European and Latin-American nations, have
abolished the death penalty since 1900 - including Canada, which did so in 1976.

Prohibition: The Ignoble Experiment
<view this essay>.... and poorhouses, and improve health and
hygiene in America" (Thornton 70). This was a very good idea, but America went
about it the wrong way. We, instead, created even more problems such as
organized crime, increased alcohol consumption, over crowded prison systems, and
the uprise of the Mafia. Not only was this a step in the wrong direction, it
was an action that increased the problems that America was already facing.
People believed that prohibition would fail and that it was a violation
of a person's privacy while other people thought that prohibition would do
nothing but improve America. People who were against prohibition were called

The Caning Punishment Issue
<view this essay>.... a cruel
and unusual punishment for repairable damage against private property.
Still measures must be taken to stop criminal activity.
A caning for stealing or trying to kill someone would be a
reasonable level to introduce corporeal punishment. Men committing such
crimes would normally be sent to jail. While not being free is bad, these
men really lose nothing but time. The victim should also get the relief of
seeing some damage done for his pains. This would be a little bit of
vengeance for the victim. As a victim this might not set it right but it
would help them feel a little better. This would also make a very big
impression on me. If I kne .....

Paula Jones' Lawsuit Against Bill Clinton

What she wants most is for the truth to come out and for her story to be heard.
"In no way is she looking for her fifteen minutes of fame," Jones says. The
case is going before the Supreme Court to decide whether to reverse the decision
of the two lower courts and delay the sexual harrassment lawsuit until President
Clinton leaves office. It could be months before the verdict from the Supreme
Court will be announced. I believe that the case should be held at a later date
when President Clinton is no longer in office. It takes away from his job which
is to run the United States of America. Fifteen yea .....

Prohibition...A Waste?
<view this essay>.... and they were concerned that there was a
culture of drink among some sectors of the population that, with continuing
immigration from Europe, was spreading.” (Cohms 1) Prohibition was seen as
the work of the devil through alcohol, so it was up to the women to save us.
“The extraordinary “Women’s War” broke out across the nation in 1873.
Thousands of women marched from church meetings to saloons, where with
prayer and song they demanded—with transitory results—that saloonkeepers
give up their businesses. By 1900, millions of men and women were beginning
to share this hostility toward the saloon and to regard it as the most
dangerous social institution then .....

The Presidency And Inexperience
<view this essay>.... office.
As any CEO of a successful corporation will tell, his successor, much less the successor of any managerial post in the company should be well indoctrinated into his new position by his predecessor prior to completely assuming his responsibilities. You might, then say that the multifaceted task of running a country is not unlike the complex task of running a corporation with its many divisions and subdivisions. Still, the fact remains that when a newly-elected president assumes office, he indeed has no ‘presidential’ experience. Granted, he may be a Washington insider (like Bob Dole), who has spent a great deal of his life in Congress working with (or .....
