Jerry Falwell Vs. Hustler Magazine
<view this essay>.... his favor on the emotional distress claim, stating that he should
be awarded compensatory and punitive damages. The Court of Appeals agreed
by rejecting Hustler Magazine, Inc.'s argument that the “actual malice”
standard of New York Times Co. v. Sullivan had to be met before Falwell
could sue for emotional distress. However, because the jury decided that
the ad didn't describe actual events, it was considered an opinion
protected by the First Amendment. The court ruled that the issue was
whether or not that opinion was outrageous enough to be considered an
intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Falwell money.
This case then went to the U.S. S .....

Argument For Keeping Repeat Offenders In Jail
<view this essay>.... with armed robbery and sentenced to 15 years in
prison, why should they be released in five years or less? We must make
criminals pay for their crimes. If individuals are incarcerated for the full
length of their given sentence, I believe that there will be less repeat
offenders and an overall smaller crime rate.
Some say that if we cut down on prison terms we will save loads of tax
money. There will be less need to build, maintain, and expand existing staff if
there are fewer prisoners. But how much more can we cut these sentences, aren't
they short enough already? The average jail sentence is seven years and eleven
months, but the actual average tim .....

The Death Penalty: For The Common Good
<view this essay>.... feel that the arguments against it are not at all convincing.
Some people argue that capital punishment is morally wrong. They
feel that killing some one for their crime is murder. In any dictionary it
states that murder is the unlawful act of killing. Since capitol
punishment is within the law it is not murder. Also if executions is
murder then prison is kidnapping and charging taxes is extortion. There is
a difference between crime and punishment. Are police officers wrong for
speeding to enforce the speeding laws? No. They also say that we should
value all human life. Even the most despicable. It is because we value
human life so much that w .....

The Debate Over Capital Punishment
<view this essay>.... a form of
deterrence does not work, as there are no fewer murders on a per-capita
basis in countries or states that do have it, then those that do not. In
order for capital punishment to work as a deterrence, certain events must
be present in the criminal's mind prior to committing the offence. The
criminal must be aware that others have been punished in the past for the
offence that he or she is planning, and that what happened to another
individual who committed this offence, can also happen to me.
But individuals who commit any types of crime ranging from auto theft
to 1st-Degree Murder, never take into account the consequences of their
actions. Deterr .....

Gun Control: Against
<view this essay>.... get banned, but the bullets were made specially
for law enforcement and licensed dealers. All of these laws should be
considered unconstitutional because it goes against the right to bare arms. So
these gun control laws should be stopped. They should find other ways to deal
with gun related crimes and violence.
This country was founded on the people of the country owning guns to
protect what they think is right. The constitution gives the people the right
to bare arms and protect themselves. Any law against guns should be
unconstitutional but the laws were made because it is what some people want.
The ban on assault riffles took effect in the may of .....

Euthanasia And The Robert Latimer Case
<view this essay>.... of living with the victim, and is it their own
lifestyle that they are truly fed up with?
In the Robert Latimer case, as in many other cases of euthanasia, it can never
be proven whether or not Latimer killed his young daughter Tracy to ‘save' her,
or to save himself. While I have never experienced living with someone who is
severely disabled, I have had the chance to discuss the issue with many friends
and associates. From what I have learned, it is, indeed, an extremely tough
matter to deal with. While no-one I have spoken to has been suicidal over the
matter, they have seen the true pain and misery that some severely disabled
individuals are forced t .....

Drug Abuse: People Abused Vs. Drugs Abused
<view this essay>.... punishment will be applied for not complying with
principles of such law those individuals should be able to recognize
differences in the meaning of a common term. In order to ease such
recognition let's make a shift in terms and distinguish between them.
A person voluntarily commits to use any prohibited by law drug.
Despite the consequences of such action, the person continues using it.
Eventually, some type of physical or mental harm occurs within that
person's body, thus, the occurrence of changes in health is the result of
one's free choice. Any of the above stages can be easily applied into
mother-child scenario.

The Death Punishment
<view this essay>.... by definition the death penalty is not murder, but justice.
Furthermore, as stated by Ed Koch, a former US Government official, "the
execution of a lawfully condemned killer is no more an act of murder than
is legal imprisonment an act of kidnaping". Finally, the same Bible that
condemns murder also advocates "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth".
This statement could be further developed to include a life for a life.
It is argued, the death penalty should be banned to prevent the
execution of innocent individuals unjustly convicted of capital murder.
Statistically this has occurred; however, given the lengthy appeals
process, all but few u .....
