However, Mr. Head’s sub- conscious motives are to have Nelson believe his grandfather’s existence in his life is indispensable. He hopes Nelson dependency upon him strengthens. Doing so would not only make himself feel superior but also satisfy his own dependency needs. He’s content with the thought once Nelson has had the opportunity in experiencing the city he will “be content to stay at home for the rest of his life” (251). His .....

.... differences are most obvious in the meaning, but due to the general similar themes of the two poems, some similarities are found. The imagery used in the two poems is very similar at times. Both authors describe to the readers a picturesque view of nature, like plants blooming in the springs. Proof of this is found in “Lone Bather” : “ is plant with lilies bursting from its heels.” Similarly, in “The Swimmer” the first stanza reads “ opening the spray corollas” which also means the blooming of flowers or plants. This similarity is very strong, as it helps to paint the same picture in the reader’s hea .....

In Young Goodman Brown, the protagonist, Goodman Brown goes off on a typical search for the devil. The devil is associated with darkness and terror, a creature only to be sought after while enveloped in the darkness of the night. As Goodman Brown himself replies to Faith's longing for him to wait until morning to embark on his journey, "My journey needst be done twixt now and sunrise" (611). Goodman Brown knows exactly what he is going to look for, he is searching for evil. He goes to the forest to do his deed and "he had taken a dreary road darkened by all .....

Another example that Pearl is not a believable child is when Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale are talking in the forest, and Dimmesdale decides to give Pearl a kiss. Pearl then walks over to the brook and washes off the kiss. Pearl seemed to like Dimmesdale previous to this incident, and now all of a sudden, she does not like Dimmesdale enough to not wipe off his kiss?
