Ethan Frome 7
<view this essay>.... punishment by her mocking and nagging of Hester. Throughout the novel she sometimes seemed to her mother as almost a witch baby (Matthiessen 104). She is a baffling mixture of strong emotions with a fierce temper and a capacity for evil. With Pearl, Hester’s life became one of constant nagging, and no joy. The child could not be made amenable to rules. Hester even remarks to herself, “Oh Father in heaven – if thou art still my father – what is this being which I have brought into the world” (Hawthorne 89)? Pearl would harass her mother Piyasena/Pine 2 over the scarlet “A” she wore. In time, Hester was subjecte .....

Poetry
<view this essay>.... When it seems like the only person who cares about you,
is you.
Life is full of pain,
but does it ever get better?
Will people ever care about each other,
and make time for those who are in need?
Each of us has a part to play
in this great show we call life.
Each of us has a duty to mankind
to tell our friends we love them.
If you do not care about your friends
you will not be pusinshed.
You will simply be ignored...
forgotten...
as you have done to others.
DON'T EVER TRY
Don't ever try
to understand everything
some things will just never make sense.
Don't ever be reluctant
to show your feelings
when you're happy, give in to .....

The Hobbit-review Of Summer Re
<view this essay>.... a high point in The Hobbit. Coming and leaving at odd times and at his own will makes Gandalf realistically human. Each dwarf also has his own unique points and personality. The setting of The Hobbit is also captivating. Tolkien's elaborate descriptions of all the places in the story are wonderful. Most scenes in The Hobbit are dark and mysterious, which I thought added to the grave mood of the story. The story of Bilbo's adventures is so dangerous that the many settings of the novel had to be gloomy enough to make up for the danger. There are many outstanding characteristics in this story.
With so many excellent attributes in The Hobbit, I found it difficul .....

Venerating The Mystery The Vir
<view this essay>.... intensity of the frank and direct gaze must be met. The Virgin's face is created from broad and distinct strokes recalling the organic textures of Van Gogh and contrasting with the more geometric and gilded shapes of her clothing. The brushwork moves through supremely controlled and ever tightening spirals of changing direction from the dark curve of the jaw to the rose colored center of the cheek to the dark and barely visible center of the eye (Figure 2, Feature 1). The motion thus created evokes a mesmerist's disk, a hypnotic spinning spiral. The rendering of the shadows around her eye hints at the kohl rimmed eyes of an Egyptian hieroglyph, an ancient an .....

Janie And The Porch

used frequently. Women of the town congregate on the porch
in the evenings to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and gossip.
The porch is used to express comfort and well being. As a
young child Janie is guided and comforted by her grandmother
who raised her. You can see this in Janie’s grandmothers’
want for the best for Janie from the quote on page 13;
“Dat’s what makes me skeered. You don’t mean no harm. You
don’t even know where harm is at. Ah’m ole now. Ah can’t
be always guidin’ yo’ feet from harm and danger. Ah wants
to see you married right away.” These are some of the best
times in Janie’s life, but all good things do not last .....

All Quiet On The Western Front
<view this essay>.... has been changed from when they were school boys‚ the stamp being the mark of a soldier‚ changing them forever. Also soldiers are compared with "automatons" or more commonly referred to as robots(105). Remarque uses this analogy to give the impression that the soldiers are enduring the same feeling over and over again‚ as if they were inhuman. In this classic war story Remarque also describes the soldiers as inhuman wild beast in addition to the nonliving objects. Paul states that when soldiers reach the zone where the front begins they are transformed into "instant inhuman animals"(56). Remarque is saying that the zone is like a magical line; once they cross .....

A Separate Peace And A Real Wa
<view this essay>.... which is the war. This idea is established clearly in a lengthy speech Gene gives as the narrator of the story in Chapter Three:
Everyone has a moment in history which belongs particularly to him. It is the moment when his emotions achieve their most powerful sway over him, and afterward when you say to this person “the world today” or “life” or “reality” he will assume that you mean this moment, even if it is fifty years past. The world, through his unleashed emotions, imprinted itself upon him, and he carries the stamp of that passing moment forever. (32)
This statement explains that Gene must have something that is his “stamp.” This stamp appears to defin .....
