Animal Rights
<view this essay>.... swollen eyes, ulceration, bleeding, massive deterioration and blindness. Their eyes are held open with clips. Nearby a rabbit is writhing in pain and snaps its neck attempting to struggle to escape. You retch into a nearby pail and ask a blank-eyed technician if he is practicing torture techniques. In fact it is nothing of that sort. The room you have walked into is a testing laboratory for cosmetics. The technician gives a short bark of laughter and asks if you would like to see the skin-testing lab.
Every year millions of animals suffer and die in painful tests to determine ‘the safety’ of items ranging from eye shadow to oven cleaner. The eye irri .....

Study Of Family Interaction Lead To New Undrestanding Of Abusive Parents
<view this essay>.... minutes in structured
activities such as playing, eating and cleaning-up. The family interaction
is video-taped and later analyzed.
The researchers have developed a system which allows them to record the
effectiveness of parenting skills. They are particularly interested in
disciplinary strategies because abuse most commonly occurs when the parent
wants the child to comply. "It's a question of trying to determine which
type of parent produces which type of child or which type of child elicits
which type of parental behaviour," explains Oldershaw.
As a result of their work, Walters and Oldershaw have identified
distinct categories of abusive parents an .....

The Effects Of Television Violence On Children
<view this essay>.... a major source of violent behavior in children. The
research proves time and time again that aggression and television viewing do
go hand in hand.
The truth about television violence and children has been shown. Some
are trying to fight this problem. Others are ignoring it and hoping it will go
away. Still others don't even seem to care. However, the facts are undeniable.
The studies have been carried out and all the results point to one conclusion:
Television violence causes children to be violent and the effects can be life-
long.
The information can't be ignored. Violent television viewing does
affect children. The effects have been se .....

The Injustice Of Slavery
<view this essay>.... you, or look at you in a funny way.
How did slaves actually become free, you might be asking yourself. It
all began with a man named Abraham Lincoln, he wanted to set slaves free. But
the southern states had large plantations and needed slaves to help, so this was
not a good idea, in their opinion. This controversy led to the Civil War, which
was eventually won by the north, and slaves were set free in America. But people
discriminated slaves very much, and that was not good.
Discrimination of African Americans is not that big now a days, but it
is still out there. Discrimination sort of died out when a man named Martin
Luther King, Jr. expressed some of h .....

Feminism And Gender Equality In The 1990's
<view this essay>.... as an oppressive force in their life. I find many parallels
between women's experiences in the nineties with Betty Friedan's, in her
essay: The Way We Were - 1949. She dealt with a society that expected
women to fulfill certain roles. Those roles completely disregarded the
needs of educated and motivated business women and scientific women.
Actually, the subtle message that society gave was that the educated woman
was actually selfish and evil.
I remember in particular the searing effect on me, who once intended to
be a psychologist, of a story in McCall's in December 1949 called "A
Weekend with Daddy." A little girl who lives a lonely life with her m .....

Homeless: What Has Been Done To Decrease The Problem?
<view this essay>.... in Canada's wealthiest city, Toronto. When
it comes to the affairs of the people, it is the government who should
intervene. When I look at what the government has done with regard to the
homeless problem, I have to doubt that everything is being done to
eradicate it. The United Nations implemented a universal declaration of
human rights. Article 25 Section 1 of this declaration states:
Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the
health and well being of himself and of his family, including food,
clothing, housing, and medical care and necessary social services, and to
the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disa .....

Fitting In
<view this essay>.... forget about
that group or single person. I have often observed that people often times try
to find out why that person or group rejected them and try to make it better.
Being rejected is like someone saying "You do not fit in with us so leave us
alone" its a nasty feeling. Some people let others down easy and that is nice of
them.
Why is it so hard to fit in? There is so much social pressure now that
it is getting harder and harder to "fit in". When I say social pressure I mean
how to act, look, sound, walk, and so on. Clothes play a very important role in
fitting in with the crowd. People say that a first impression is the most
important one so people t .....

Television Violence
<view this essay>.... After viewing NBC from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. there was an average of 3.4 acts of violence per hour. This is during prime time and many people might think this is too much for children to see. Also, if you look at how it is depicted and the degree of violence it shows, it could be a very bad influence on children or anyone for that matter. In my opinion, NBC did not do a good job in responsibly showing the violent acts during its prime time hours.
The first show I viewed was Seinfeld at 6:30 p.m. Of all the shows viewed over the course of the night Seinfeld had the most acts of violence in its half-hour programming. There were a total of five ac .....
