Sports In Today's Society
<view this essay>.... football or the local little
league, players on each team should have a certain respect for the other team.
Yet, many people still question the ethics of professional sports. Do these men
and women who get paid for their talent still have respect for themselves, the
fans, and the opposing team?
Sports such as Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey are prime
examples of how some athletes display their sportsmanship. These signs of bad
sportsmanship are sometimes fighting or acting irrational just because the team
lost the game, missed a catch or block, dropped the ball, or simply not doing
better than they thought. Many times you can hear or read such e .....

Welfare
<view this essay>.... Some of the good things out of
this plan is that by the year 2005, only 14% of jobs will be done by more of the
dependent poor people. This is bad because 46% of aid recipients had not
completed high school or earned a General Equivalency Diploma. The ability to
absorb more welfare recipients is limited by the high- technology chemical,
agricultural, fiber and pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. These
workers would have limited skills. Monsanto is highly protecteive of the privacy
of its special new hires. The new employees are hired to fill a variety of
clerical and light general- labor positions. They will not be identified as the
company's w .....

Let Me Decide: The Right To Die
<view this essay>.... all costs, and families often make the wrong choices because they feel pressured by doctors, other family members, and their own confusion and guilt. I have often heard people say that it is more emotionally painful to let a loved one die, than it is for the dying to leave their loved ones behind. The dying have accepted their illness or situation and are aware of their impending death.
I do not think I would want to be kept alive by machines if I was in a terrible accident, or suffered an incurable disease. I do know that I would not want to feel pain or discomfort. The lecture brought back some bad memories. A few years ago I found it most difficult to .....

Baby Boomers Are Jealous
<view this essay>.... by Coupland and the media
as Generation X. Although the name has stuck, Coupland's book is virtually
impossible to find. Why is that? Could it be because Generation X describes us,
me, everyone who was born between the years of 1963-1983 as "white and
privileged and living in a suburb near you" (Giles, p4). In addition,
Advertising Age referred to Generation X'ers as "That cynical, purple-haired
blob watching TV." (Giles, p2)
What makes our generation so special, is that we have proven them all
wrong. Generation X consists of those between the ages 13 and 33 years of age.
We as a group have become the productive, interested, and hardworking

How Society Conforms In “The Lottery”
<view this essay>.... their harvest. No one ever questions why they do it or if they should do it. They believe it is right because it is tradition. Having a sense of tradition is a very strong force that can influence lots of the things we do within a society. It can keep us from becoming our own individuals and acting on our own.
This village is so caught up in tradition that not only do they continue to have the lottery, but they never question it and believe that it is the only way to do things. Any other town that decides it is wrong and stops doing it is considered to be run by stupid youngsters who don’t understand the importance of tradition. The people in this village .....

An Ethical Dilemma
<view this essay>.... provide it. One woman, who did not wish to be named, almost had her house foreclosed on. If not for the service provided by the factoring companies she would have lost it. Another man, who also wished to not release his name, secured funds through a factoring company to expand his own business, and as a result he is more successful than ever. It is obvious that the factoring companies have provided a valuable service for some, but lets take a look at the dissatisfied customers.

Being Just Or Unjust
<view this essay>.... rulers and the guardians (as well as to the workers). If we consider the above statement for a moment, it is logically correct to say that only the rulers could act justly in this example for they are the only ones that contain wisdom.
When considering an unjust part of the soul in order to rule it inappropriately and we look at part of nature suited to be a slave. There is a meddling between the parts and is therefore considered unjust. So then it is logically impossible for all groups to be linked to the virtue of justice when one member of one of the four virtues has the potential to act unjustly.
A harmony or moderation must be achieved for justice. Y .....

What Is Welfare?
<view this essay>.... order to survive he had to “dumpster dive.” Eighner describes
this as scrounging dumpsters for his basic needs, food and clothing (19).
Whatever he eats, drinks, or wears come from dumpsters. The unfortunate
circumstances that led to his situation occur to millions of people
throughout the country. The growing problem of homelessness is worsened by
the welfare programs that offer subsistence rather than opportunities, or
incentives (Long 23). Federal expenditures for public and private low-cost
housing have been cut from $30 billion, in 1981, to $7 billion in 1987, and
only about 4 million of 10 million eligible households receive federal
