Environmental Apocalypse
<view this essay>.... 1990) The problem with overpopulation is that even if we all reduce our impact on the environment, when the population doubles, so will the total impact on the earth will be doubled.
Consumerism is another thing that is threatening our planet. Everyone who wants to be anyone “must have” whatever is cool at the time. This usually means the biggest, meanest, least efficient car or the fanciest toys, generally leading to wasteful packaging and harmful chemicals or other bad stuff. “In short, Impact = Population * Affluence * Technology.” (Ehrlich, 1990) The problem is that everyone cares too much about societies image of them that they d .....

Human Impact On Air And Climate
<view this essay>.... pinpointing average yearly temperatures in the
northern hemisphere to within a fraction of a degree, going back to AD 1400.
The study places in a new context long-standing controversy over the
relative roles of human and natural changes in the climate of past
centuries, according to Mann. Scientists were particularly interested in
natural "forcings" -- factors that can affect the climate significantly but
which are not part of the climate system itself. Based on statistical
comparisons of reconstructed northern hemisphere temperatures, the best
estimates indicate that natural changes in the brightness of the sun and
volcanic emissions both played an important r .....

Determining The Ratio Of Circumference To Diameter Of A Circle
<view this essay>.... The objects
that I measured were a small flask, a large flask, a tray from a scale, a roll
of tape, a roll of paper towels, and a spraycan.
By dividing the circumference of the circle by the diameter I was able
to calculate the experimental ratio, and I knew that the accepted ratio was pi.
Then I put both ratios in the chart.
By subtracting the accepted ratio from the experimental you find the
error. Error is the deviation of the experimental ratio from the accepted ratio.
After I had the error I could go on to find the percentage error. The equation I
used was, error divided by the accepted ratio times 100. For example, if I took
the error of the experimenta .....

Types Of Microphones
<view this essay>.... less sensitive they are used in noisy places. Two problems with the microphone is that when someone talks the "p" and "s" sounds come out.
Condenser microphones are becoming more and more intricate. First of all many microphones contain little batteries about the size of a hearing aid. The batteries last a very long time.
The television field uses around four kinds of microphones as basic equipment; the hand-held omnidirectional, the tiny lavalier mic, which is used by clipping on clothing, a wireless microphone called the transmitter mic, and the shotgun mic.
The Omnidirectional Microphone comes in many different shapes and sizes. They are used when the .....

What is Cancer?
Cancer is when abnormal cells in an organ start growing and increasing in an uncontrolled manner. Because the cells are dividing at a rate excess of normal division the cells form a tumour. The crowded cells fail to stop dividing until they push everything out of place. If the tumour is benign it will enlarge only at the site where it began. However cancerous tumours can invade and destroy. One of the reasons that cancer needs to be caught early is because it will spread. Cancerous cells lack the sticky coating that causes normal healthy cells to stay together because cancerous cells lack it they can break off and impl .....

Malibu Fires
<view this essay>.... biomass. The Malibu wildfires are an example of one
such instance.
Historically, wildfires had been left to burn uncontrolled for weeks.
Fires were caused by different sources such as lightning or human hunters who
wanted to chase animals out of the woods. As prolonged as these fires were,
they had limited catastrophic effects on the nomadic humans. This is due to the
low population density and the fact that the fires were not very intense. As
people began to change from a hunting-gathering society to agriculturists, they
settled in communities. Homes built among the wild brush were perfect prey to
wildfires. Initially, wildfires were put out immedia .....
