accountable for your actions. Equality is the basis of American society.
Before equality for all, there was slavery. With this slavery came accounts

accounts of slaves such as Frederick Douglass and Olaudah Equiano, we would
have never emerged from this dark era in American history.

Tomato Fishing
<view this essay>.... of
sunflowers, beans and beets, four eggplants, five bell peppers, several
herbs and a peach tree named Packwood (named after creeping under my skirt
once too often). Everything was going along nicely. Then we went on
vacation....
We came back to find a sea of green. Tomatoes covered everything. We
had to transplant two of the eggplants, and we lost the one with the red
and white stripes. Most of the herbs had disappeared. The peppers and
Packwood were ok, but we hadn't planted any tomatoes in that box. But the
tomatoes in the next box over were trying to invade it. Tomatoes overflowed
everywhere.

Rethinking The Watchtowers
<view this essay>.... years ago, most of us were "traditonal" enough to copy
everything by hand. (Today, photocopying and even computer modem transfers
are becoming de rigueur.) Always, we were admonished to copy "every dot
and comma", making an exact transcription of the original, since any
variation in the ceremony might cause major problems for the magician.
Seldom, if ever, did anyone pause to consider where these rituals came from
in the first place, or who composed them. Most of us, alas, did not know

rituals as prescribed.
But something brought me to an abrupt halt in my copying frenzy. I

The Big Day
<view this essay>.... the situation I forced myself to
make an effort and sat up, looking at her. Everything about her was
beautiful even in the morning. The way that curly almost black hair just
touched her shoulders. The casual pose she held sitting on the edge of the
bed in that worn Lakers T-shirt. I took her hand and pulled her a little
closer admiring her mischievous smile. She wanted to say something but she
waited for me to speak first. I kissed her hand repeatedly and looking
into her dark brown eyes I said slowly overenunciating each word:
"I...love...you."
Her smile got wider as she replied. "You better. Don't you dare
flake on me now."
She lay down beside me and kis .....

Personal Writing: My Favorite Vacation
<view this essay>.... On each of these different islands there were tourist
attractions all over the place. There were also lots and lots of gift shops
too. On these different islands we did something different. On St. Thomas
we rode bikes up into the mountain and saw all different kinds of birds,
plants and lizards. That was fun for awhile till it got tough and then we
started to head back.
On the other island Barbados they had the best beaches you could imagine.
The water was so clear and the sand was so white and soft it felt like a
pillow. We went swimming over there for about 2 hours. While we were there
you could see the bottom at least 30 feet deep. There were no rocks to .....
