Antigone Vs. Billy Budd
<view this essay>.... Sophocles. Antigone is definitely a good example of a Greek tragedy. It contains all of the elements of Greek tragedy as defined by Aristotle. Billy Budd has also been interpreted by some critics as a Greek tragedy. This seems true in that it contains many of the requirements in a Greek tragedy. However, as we look closer, there are many factors that are not found in Billy Budd that are required in a Greek tragedy. There are flaws to the theory. Analysis of the Billy Budd has shown that enough of these flaws are evident to interpret Billy Budd as not a Greek tragedy. There are differences in the character, structure, theme, magnitude, tragic heroes, p .....

Perfectly Insane - Gulliver's Travels
<view this essay>.... in which his fellow Englishman behaved, subtly represented in his encounters with other nations that unflatteringly reflect his generation’s lifestyles. (Unknown(ii) 2) Therefore, Swift’s “perfect” human being must be a combination of good traits, and ignorance of the bad ones, from each of the nations Gulliver encountered.
In Gulliver's first voyage to Lilliput, the Lilliputians impress Gulliver with their intelligence and organizational abilities, as well as the fact that they are well dressed and articulate. However, his role as the town giant not only put into perspective the selfishness and unrelenting need for power of the human race, but also opened .....

emotions about what he should say and do. He feels badly that the widow is
going to sell Jim and separate him from his family. Huck decides against better
reasoning to help Jim escape down the Mississippi River to Cairo.
Another example of good role modeling is Huck's faithfulness to those he
loves and cares for. Huck lies to protect Jim on several occasions. Lying is
not the best thing, but to Huckleberry, the truth is not always a black and
white issue. He is faithful to his friends and chooses friendship instead. He
knows that Jim's family needs him. In today's language, Huckleberry's reaction

Slaughterhouse Five
<view this essay>.... the narrator in the text, on several occasions. “An American near Billy wailed that [Billy] had excreted everything but his brains...That was I. That was me.” This statement clearly illustrates that the narrator and Billy are not the same person. The narrator was the
American disgusted by Billy. Vonnegut places the narrator in the novel in subtle ways. While describing the German prisoner trains, he merely states, “I was there.” By not referring to Billy as I, Billy is immediately an individual person. I is the narrator, while Billy is Billy. Their single connection is that they were both in the war.

Frankenstein: What Makes It A Gothic Novel?
<view this essay>.... despair.
Shelly's writing shows how the varied and dramatic settings of Frankenstein
can create the atmosphere of the novel and can also cause or hinder the
actions of Frankenstein and his monster as they go on their seemingly
endless chase where the pursuer becomes the pursued.
Darkly dramatic moments and the ever-so-small flashes of happiness
stand out. The setting sets the atmosphere and creates the mood. The “
dreary night of November” (Shelly 42) where the monster is given life,
remains in the memory. And that is what is felt throughout the novel-the
dreariness of it all along with the desolate isolation. Yet there were
still glimpses of happiness in .....

<view this essay>.... of the northern army. Not much later towards the end of May of 1861 General Lee established a defensive hold along the small stream of Bull Run located in Manassas. During the Battle of Bull Run McDowell was crushed by Confederate generals Joseph E. Johnston and Pierre Beauregard due to weak planning and it became apparent that this in fact would not be a short-lived war. Next up was the most popular and perhaps the greatest of the commanders, George B. McClellan. After the embarrassing defeats at Bull Run he masterfully regrouped and disciplined the AOP as he himself showed outstanding military presence and was constantly increasing his knowledge of offensive .....

Understanding Masculine Psychology
