The Canterbury Tales: The Perfect Love
<view this essay>.... so
strong that the two knights feel that it is worth more than life. At one point
Palomon says to Arcite, " Though I have no weapon here . . . either you shall
die or you shall not love Emily." The love that Palomon feels for Emily is so
overwhelming that he is willing to take on an armed man, in mortal combat, just
for the love of a woman. Perhaps he feels that without her he will surely die,
so why not die trying to win her.
The ironic fact about the relationship between the two knights and Emily
is that Emily does not wish to marry either of the knights. she expresses this

John Steinbeck
<view this essay>.... The result is that the reader does not get a clear picture of one of them, except for Lennie. But still Lennie's mind is as a closed book to us, and only in the final chapter Steinbeck attempts to describe Lennie and his hallucinations, but the result is very poor.
Theme: Without a doubt it is companionship. The friendship between George and Lennie is so close that George takes it up for his feeble-minded friend and protects him above all, even his own interests. It is like a sacred bond, and this makes them different from people who are just on their own. Seeking friendship is also to be seen in Candy, Curley's wife and Crooks.

Voltaire And Machiavelli
<view this essay>.... of thought, popular in Voltaire's time, is shown to be ridiculous. The following passage from page two will suffice to prove this point.
Baron Thunder-ten-Tronckh passed near the screen and beholding this cause-and-effect chased Candide from the castle with great kicks on the backside; Cunegonde fainted away; she was boxed on the ears by the Baroness, as soon as she came to herself; and all was consternation in this most magnificent and most agreeable of all possible Castles (Candide 2)
Voltaire is obviously ridiculing optimistic philosophy, especially that of Leibnitz for whom Pangloss was a follower.
It seems as though Voltaire is condemming metaphysics .....

colorful piece.
From the beginning, we see that Hester Prynne is a young and beautiful
woman who has brought a child into the world with an unknown father. She
is punished by Puritan society by wearing the scarlet letter A on the
bosom of her dress and standing on the scaffold for three hours. Her hair
is a glossy brown and her eyes deep-set, and black, her attire is rich,
