Battle Royal

with your head in the lion's mouth. I want you to overcome ‘em with yeses,
undermine ‘em with grins, agree ‘em to death and destruction, let ‘em swoller
you till they vomit or bust wide open." In other words his grandfather was
telling him to conform to the white peoples way of life in order to get ahead. I
believe that the story had a deeper meaning than the aforementioned one. I
believe that if the reader were to take a deeper look into all of the symbolism
in the story, one would find that the summation of all the symbolism is equal to
not only the struggle of this one black boy, but the struggle of all blacks at
the time in which th .....

trying to take care of her families well-being.
A brief synopsis of Elinor and Marianne's personalities leads to
the following: Elinor is quiet, soft spoken, full of good manners, and
well brought up. Marianne is impulsive, outspoken, full of a vibrant love
of life and playful. To fully understand the girls, it is important to .....

The Red Badge Of Courage
<view this essay>.... book progresses, the Youth learns to deal with his shame by feeling honored for being a hero.In the end, the Youth becomes a man. He learns that the most important lessons in life can be seen by opening his eyes. I personally was attracted to the Youth. All his thoughts and wild imagination impressed me. He would describe death as a being that could swallow him whole, and ramble on about wonderful sunsets. The Youth was also a very troubled soul. He worried a lot over things he might do and not the things he would do. For instance, on page 34, he questions others in hope that their answers would comfort him. He feels disassociated from others, "The Youth, con .....

Alice Munros Boys And Girls
<view this essay>.... into adulthood for many young children. Initiation, or the rite of passage into adulthood, is, according to the theme of Munro’s story, both a mandatory and necessary experience.
Alice Munro's creation of an unnamed and therefore undignified, female protagonist proposes that the narrator is without identity or the prospect of power. Unlike the narrator, the young brother Laird is named – a name that means "lord" – and implies that he, by virtue of his gender alone, is invested with identity and is to become a master. This stereotyping in names alone seems to suggest that gender does play an important role in the initiation of young child .....

Tragedy And The Common Man
<view this essay>.... and where this admission is not made in so many words it is most often implied.
I believe that the common man is as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings were. On the face of it this ought to be obvious in the light of modern psychiatry, which bases its analysis upon classic formulations, such as the Oedipus and Orestes complexes, for instances, which were enacted by royal beings, but which apply to everyone in similar emotional situations.
Not Exclusive
More simply, when the question of tragedy in art is not at issue, we never hesitate to attribute to the well-placed and the exalted the very same mental processes as the lowly. And finally, .....
