The Storm By Kate Chopin
<view this essay>.... "The Awakening", "the boldest treatment so far in American literature of the sensuous, independant woman" (Seyersted 1969, p164). "The Storm" was not published, however, until well after Chopin's death, doubtless because of the as-yet unparalleled sensuousness of the story and its characters. In his critical biography Kate Chopin, Per Seyersted argues that "The Storm" is objective in its portrayal of human sexuality and that Chopin is "not consciously speaking as a woman, but as an individual" (p169). One must question this assertion, however; it is doubtful that in writing "The Storm" so soon after completing her 'feminist' novel, Chopin had "the protes .....

Virgil's Aeneid
<view this essay>.... that is evident is the manner in which Aeneas deals
with Turnus. In book XII Turnus states that the fight should be between the two

dislike Aeneas who came unannounced, tried to take his fiancé, Aeneas' son
killed their sacred deer, and he took his land. They have a great dual and
Aeneas disarmed Turnus by striking him in the leg. With his sword to his chest
Turnus makes a last request for his body to be returned to his family, as Aeneas

Never Ending Story
<view this essay>.... of Fantastica. Bastians’ peaceful character and Atreyu’s determination sets The Neverending Story apart from the classic scene of one character playing the role of a hero without distributing the accomplishments between the other characters. This book represents a celebration of unity in which it is proven by Atreyu and Bastian who set the stage and begins what has to be begun. Bastian plays the role of a heroic human being in a human world reading nothing but a book called The Neverending Story while Atreyu characterizes an immortal hero living out struggles inside the book. The tie is that of creation and release. In the first scaffold scene,
Hester releases not only her guilt about her crime, but, she also releases

third scaffold scene, Di .....

Emily Grierson’s is an old lady who is very stubborn. Faulkner manages to show this through different events that happen in the story and how she reacts towards them. One of the events that happened was when Emily received a tax notice in the mail telling her that she has to pay her taxes. At this point in time Colonel Sartoris had been dead and there was no recollection in the cities files of what he had told her. Because she had refused to send any money .....

The Yellow Wallpaper: What The Hell????
<view this essay>.... me. The pattern with the woman seems to be
related to the way she is being treated by her husband, John. John is very
protective of her wife because she is in all reality a very sick woman. She
feels trapped because of this and the way she sees the paper must be an
indication. She stays up late at night and hours on end during the day to stare
at worthless, tattered, yellow wallpaper.
This story really bored me to death. All I could think of was, "when is
this story going to be over?" I remember having a highly active imagination as
a child but this is ridiculous. She sees mushrooms sprouting and women shaking
bars and she's a middle aged woman. The la .....

A Changed Man

When he receives word that his beloved sister, Gertrude, has fallen ill, Kumalo’s false hopes that his family might someday return are evident. Although it has been proven that “when people go to Johannesburg, they do not come back” (Paton 4), he is still reluctant to dip into the money he and his wife were saving to send their son, Absalom, to St. Chad’s for further education, much less take it all for his trip. A sensible man, Kumalo realizes that it is necessary to take all of this money and sacrifice the luxuries for which they had been setting aside. Kumalo is somewhat angered by the fact that he now must suffer for those who left and no .....
