You can see that he's strong but he's also frightened. As you move your eyes towards what's behind him you notice that his hand is crippled and was probably burned. Your eyes meet his and they're a piercing blue. You are so struck by his looks you can't wait to go talk to him and find out about his personality traits. Johnny Tremain's personality was very fascinating, and it was most intriguing to read about how he changed from a bossy, impatient boy, into a thoughtful, patien .....

Claggort "who's brow was of the sort phrenologically associated with more than average intellect" symbolically manipulated Billy Budd as did the "wisdom of the serpent" manipulate Adam. Evil always tries to antagonize what is good. Therefore, Claggort was Billy's antagonist throughout Billy Budd. Also symbolic to the novel is the actual demise of both Claggort and Billy Budd. Claggort's death is very short and appropriate "to his navel grade." In contrast, Billy's death occurs during the dawn where " Billy ascended; and ascending took the full rose of the dawn." The main character, Marlow, generalizes all women and depicts every woman as living in a dream-like state merely “going through the motions” of life. In his descriptions of the various women characters, Marlow either implies or directly states that women are not mentally equipped to survive in society, and can only function in a dream-like state. He also conveys that it is the responsibility of men to save women and preserve their naïveté. This point of view is reflected often, and stems from his English upbringing and the British .....

It is the only thing in Alex's life that he truly cares for. This music represents the element of his choice and free will. When his ability of choice is robbed in an attempt to better him, he loses his love for music in which he exclaims, "And all the time the music got more and more gromky, like it was all a deliberate torture, O my brothers . . . then I jumped"(131).
