The Queen Of Air And Darkness
<view this essay>.... normally never do. When Gawaine
and Agravaine are arguing over whether or not to write a letter to their father
about the knights, Agravaine refuses to say he is wrong, so Gawaine goes berserk
and attacks him. He does not simply beat him, but chokes him and slams his head
against the floor until Gareth pulls him off. If Gareth had not been there,
Gawaine very well might have killed his younger brother. Gawaine even kills a
women when worked up to a rage. These rages are a product of the unhealthy
childhood he endured.
The next child, Agravaine, is probably the least well adjusted of the
four. He tends to be sadistic and self-centered. The children wer .....

Animal Farm By George Orwell
<view this essay>.... have completely taken over and the kingdom
is as it was under the original rulers. I will compare the animals from
top of the social class to the bottom. At the top were the pigs. Each pig
represented someone different in the revolution. Old Major is compared to
Lenin. He was an ideologist who dreamed up a wonderful government where
all the animals were equal and the humans, or the czars, were pushed out.
Unfortunately his dream would never materialize. Then we are left with
his predecessors. The first is Snowball. Snowball believed one hundred
percent in Old Majors ideals. He wanted all the things Old Major wanted,
such as the welfare of the anima .....

Waterlily By Ella Cara Deloria
<view this essay>.... baby. Seeing how
beautiful her baby was Blue Bird exclaimed, “How beautiful you are! As
beautiful as the waterlillies. You to are a waterlily, my waterlily.” (p. 6).
Blue Bird ends up marrying a man, Star Elk, whom doesn't favor her
grandmother very much. Star Elk is a lazy, jealous man who is sub-standard in
Dakota male value. He demonstrates this effectively when he “throws away his
wife” (p. 16) at a victory dance. Men weren't suppose to publicly display
emotion in Dakota tradition.
After being publicly humiliated, Blue Bird, her grandmother and Waterlily
luckily and happily ran into their family's tiyospaye. The reason why it was so
fortu .....

Animal Farm: Power's Corruption
<view this essay>.... dogs to guard them and attack whoever they were told. This scared the other animals into not protesting and thus expanding the pig's power even more. They saved apples, milk and whiskey for themselves, and made the other animals work harder and longer with fewer rations than before. It's easy to see how power can effortlessly influence the greed factor.
Discrimination is another outcome of abused power. People of high power often tend to look down their noses at the ones who work for them or do not obtain the same amount of power as them. The pigs in 'Animal Farm' follow this portrayal perfectly. In the story, they begin to discriminate against the o .....

Literary Analysis Of Lennie
<view this essay>.... also leads to the same conclusion, since it is natural to sway your arms when you are walking.
2. Quote:
“Lennie Dipped his whole head under, hat and all, and then he sat up on the bank and his hat dripped down on his blue coat and ran down his back. ‘Tha’s good,’ he said. ‘Yo drink some, George. You take a good big drink. He smiled happily” (3).
Significance:
The fact that Lennie does not cup his hands for a drink, he without thinking, plunges his entire head into the water leads to support to the idea of a slightly slow, child-like, innocent man. The lack of looking if the water was running shows Lennie’s position as a character with little or no comm .....

Summary Of Terkel's My American Century
<view this essay>.... just to get by, and early demise.
The thing about this reading that fascinated me the most isn't what
led this man to the Klan, or what he did with them. The thing that really
got me was how much this man changed over the course of time. When he
first joined the Klan, it was because he needed a group to fit into that
related to his problems, and he needed to direct his anger and hostility
toward someone- that someone happened to be blacks.
The reading doesn't really concentrate on all of the things he did
as a Klan member, except to say that he did particularly “hate” one of the
black people in town more than most-Ann Atwater. He claimed to hate her

Theocracy And Guilt And Punishment In The Scarlet Letter
<view this essay>.... if they were insubordinate to the rules, a theocratic society can control its people. Hawthorne presents the concept and theme through his use of literary devices or techniques such as imagery, symbolism, and light and dark words.
