the university, she continued her studies, but left in 1950 without having

nineteenth century clergymen, golf, crime, and music." She is a Whig in

Mice Of Men
<view this essay>.... feel and pet animals, but he does not know his own strength. He kills them without really noticing what he has done, until George tells him that he did something wrong. After being scolded, Lennie is very remorseful about what he did. Once, after being yelled at Lennie says, “I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead- because they were so little (13).” Lennie’s remorse is probably more for upsetting George than it is for actually killing the animal. Another way that death and loss is evidenced by this novel is when Lennie killed Curley’s wife. When Lennie is in the barn (after killing his new puppy) Curley’s wife came into the barn and came on to .....

The Catcher In The Rye: Holden's Thoughts And Feelings
<view this essay>.... is alone, bored and restless, wondering what to do. He decides to
leave Pencey, his school, at once and travels to New York by train. He
decides that, once in New York, he will stay in a cheap motel until
Wednesday, when he is to return home. His plan shows the reader how very
impetuous he is and how he acts on a whim. He is unrealistic, thinking
that he has a foolproof plan, even though the extent of his plans are to
"take a room in a hotel.., and just take it easy till Wednesday."
Holden's excessive thoughts on death are not typical of most
adolescents. His near obsession with death might come from having
experienced two deaths in h .....

To Kill A Mockingbird: Atticus
<view this essay>.... that he is not going to change his views on how to raise his children just because another family member has different views and expectations of him. This also reassures his children that he is very much on charge of their well being and knows what is best for them no matter what others may say.
Another example that shows that Atticus is a good parent is when Scout uses profanity in front of Uncle Jack. To deal with this situation, Atticus tells Uncle Jack that if they don’t pay attention to her she’ll get over this "stage". I believe it takes a lot more control to ignore the comment and continue doing what you were as opposed to punishing the child for such .....

The Great Gatsby- Jay Gatsby V
<view this essay>.... over by his gentle smile and his visible hunger for an ideal future. The coarse and playful Jay Gatsby who throws wild parties and spends lavishly on friends and strangers doesn’t hold as much reality as the quiet Gatsby who dreams of happiness with Daisy and the relationship they once had.

Later he dreams of Daisy and their future together, which he has in reach for a time before it falls away. He loses it because his love for Daisy is all in the relationship they used to have—he wants to recreate the past, not make a future. H .....

like the overhand wound found on his dad.
What about the old man claiming to hear the boy yell? How could this be
possible? The old man does not have that good of hearing. Also, at that same
time, the train was going by his house. This train is very loud. How could an

New Women Of The Victorian Era
<view this essay>.... and the tempering of expectations both to social difficulties, and on a broader scale, human frailty. Dorthea Brooke and Sue Brideshead display elements of the “new woman” and both are driven to accomplish what each desires. Both are intelligent and educated women. The contrast in the two comes from the different motives each has to separate themselves from the norm. Sue is self-centered in her “independence,” while Dorthea is an ardent spokeswoman for social reform and justice. Both women follow different paths, neither ending up at a position they once knew they would attain. Dorthea is depicted early in the novel as having an intimidating presence; however .....
