The Lord Of The Flies
<view this essay>.... the island became an evil place as if “a beast “ had been unleashed. We later learn that the fear of the unknown causes humans to release their own devils from within. In effect, their world isn’t so different from the one we live in now.
I find it ironic that the very person who interrupted the children’s sick man-hunt of Ralph, will take the children to his ship, which will then hunt the enemy in the very same fashion. Society is no better than the children who are stuck on the island and showing their violent attributes. However, these children were saved, only to be exposed to the exact same situation on a greater level. The enti .....

The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse
<view this essay>.... take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other." The third rider is on a black horse which "could indicate dried up vegetation or even burned vegetation." He came with scales that weigh food. The scales symbolize "injustice" because he will only affect the poor. He has the power to drought the earth. The fourth rider on a "sickly yellow-green" horse "like a dead person" sums up the work of the other three i.e. kill by sword, famine and plaque, and by the wild beast of the earth. Hades follows close behind this rider because he always follows death.
I believe that one day this will happen. It seems like its happening already since there are a lot of .....

The Great Gatsby: Realism
<view this essay>.... (Jay Gatsby's dream of becoming rich and succesfull in order to impress
Daisy) is easily believable and is still a quite common dream today. Smaller
plots, such as Tom Buchanans affair with Myrtle, are also very realistic and are
a common occurrence in every day life. From here Fitzerald deepened the story by
using realism to entangle these plots. Fitzgerald then grew apon these plots by
making them all have realistic outcomes (such as Gatsby's demise), rather than
your typical story book endings. It is mostly thanks to Fitzgerald's descriptive,
poetic style of writing that allows him to realistically portray the many plots
of The Great Gatsby. Fitzger .....

Tess Of The D'Urbervilles
<view this essay>.... end of continuous hardships.
From the very beginning of the novel, Tess receives "the short end
of the stick" in almost every scene. She is one of the girls who doesn't
get to dance with the strange young man before he returns to his brothers.
Although they exchange looks at each other, he runs off into the night
without a word spoken between them. This is our first glimpse of Tess, and
even before we learn more about her, we know that her family is not well
off and that her father seems to be a bit of a drunk. Next, she is, to a
degree, railroaded into going to claim kinship to the d'Urbervilles.

Something Wicked This Way Comes" Supernatural Forces

locate their homes. Bradbury describes the old gypsy as being, “... blind,
but [a] special blind. She could dip down her hands to feel the bumps of
the world, touch house roofs, probe attic bins, reap dust, examine droughts
that blew through halls and souls that blew through people, draughts vented
from bellows to thump-wrist, to pound-temples, to pulse-throat, and back to
bellows again (Bradbury 143).” The carnival selects her because of her
unique ability to sense emotions and feel the body’s reaction to the world
around it. After the boys thwart her first attempt to find them and give .....

Catcher In The Rye - Holden An
<view this essay>.... as -- someone who discriminates against others, is a hypocrite about something, or has manifestations of conformity (Corbett 71). Throughout The Catcher in the Rye, Holden describes and interacts with various members of his family. The way he talks about or to each gives you some idea of whether he thinks they are "phony" or normal. A few of his accounts make it more obvious than others to discover how he classifies each family member.
From the very first page of the novel, Holden begins to refer to his parents as distant and generalizes both his father and mother frequently throughout his chronicle. One example is: "…my parents would have about two hemorrha .....

The Odyssey And Its Themes
<view this essay>.... goal in the entire book, and that really states something about his character. In Book 5 we are first introduced to the character Odysseus. The strange thing is that he is weeping to himself when we first meet him. He is weeping because he pines for his family and home as stated in lines 327 and 328, “Yet it is true, each day I long for home, long for the sight of home.” As he plainly states, Odysseus greatly misses his home, and his tears show us just how much he misses it. In the duration of the story Odysseus has to make several sacrifices in order to get to the home he longs for so much. In Book 12, Circe foresees that Odysseus will have to le .....
