The Prospect Of Cold Fusion
<view this essay>.... was "dead," because the scientific establishment, the hot fusion community, and many in the news media have ignored the continuing cold fusion research. But cold fusion is far from dead. It is alive not only in dozens of laboratories in the United States, but in numerous foreign research centers, particularly in Japan.
Cold fusion is a real but still incompletely explained energy-producing phenomenon that occurs when ordinary hydrogen and the special form of hydrogen called deuterium are brought together with metals, such as palladium, titanium, and nickel. Usually, some triggering mechanism, such as electricity or even acoustic energy, is required to provoke .....

Genetic Cloning
<view this essay>.... definition of a clone is an organism that has the same genetic information as another organism or organisms. On February 22, 1997 the first mammal to ever was cloned at the Roslin Institute in Edinburg, Scotland(Staples). It was a sheep by the name of Dolly. Dolly was cloned from an adult sheep; using donor DNA and mammary cells from a female sheep cloned it. The process is very technical and I don’t fully understand it myself. From what I have researched I have come to understand that currently cloning is very “Hit or Miss”(Hawley). From 277 attempts, Dolly was the only successful attempt. The point is however that we now have a man created shee .....

The Depletion Of The Ozone Layer
<view this essay>.... to be protected from all of the factors that are making it disappear.
There are many factors that affect how quickly the ozone depletes.
The main problem with the decaying ozone layer consists of people
being careless. Many times, the chemicals released into the air by people
drift into the ozone and form harmful chemical bonds with ozone molecules.
One example would be chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's. CFC's were commonly
found in spray cans during the early 1970's but were invented in the 1920's.
They contain chlorine, fluorine, and carbon atoms which all form bonds
with the rare ozone molecules. A few more products with CFC's are coolants
for refri .....

Alzhiemers
<view this essay>.... those stem
cells in the brains of living patients, and shows that these cells can
be stimulated to turn into new neurons, principal author Dr.
Steven A. Goldman told Reuters Health.
In addition, it may lead to the development of drugs that would
stimulate the formation of new brain cells in people with
Alzheimer's or other diseases where brain cells degenerate, he
commented.
Goldman noted that the use of drugs to stimulate proliferation of
new brain cells will probably result in a more successful strategy
than attempting to grow the cells outside the body and then
placing them back into the brains of patients, as some scientists
hav .....

Computer Aided Drafting And Design
<view this essay>.... or centimeters. The standard method of co-ordinates gives a product which is compatible with other systems. One co-ordinate point might represent 1/10 of a millimeter in actual space. Then 1 millimeter is 10 co-ordinate points.
CADD systems were developed along with the computer. They were developed very slowly. They went from being very large, clumsy, elaborate machines which needed lots of human intervention to one program on a floppy disk. When the power of computers increased, so did the possibilities of CADD.
Images on CADD systems are drawn with the aid of a keyboard, mouse, or tracking ball. One selects the starting point of a line, the endin .....

Effects Of Excessive Pesticide
<view this essay>.... manner. The most economic and effective way to handle these has been to employ pesticides, many of which are now composed of synthetic chemicals, and it is these substances - very beneficial from the economic and production aspects of farming - which can pose risks to human health and the environment if not properly used.
Pest problems are not new; in fact, they have been around as long as agriculture itself. But the pest pressure faced by farmers is now as great as it ever was: the world's fast-growing human population needs to be fed from an always shrinking base of agricultural land, and the substantial damage that can be inflicted by pests (e.g. insects, .....

Solar Cells
<view this essay>.... In the simplest model of the atom, electrons
orbit a central nucleus, composed of protons and neutrons. each electron
carries one negative charge and each proton one positive charge. Neutrons
carry no charge. Every atom has the same number of electrons as there are
protons, so, on the whole, it is electrically neutral. The electrons have
discrete kinetic energy levels, which increase with the orbital radius.
When atoms bond together to form a solid, the electron energy levels merge
into bands. In electrical conductors, these bands are continuous but in
insulators and semiconductors there is an "energy gap", in which no
electron orbits can exist, between .....

The Role Catalysts In Chemical Reactions, Their Importance In Industry, Problems And New Developments
<view this essay>.... which will help reduce damage to the
environment.
The process of catalysis is essential to the modern day manufacturing industry.
Ninety per cent, over a trillion dollars' worth, of manufactured items are
produced with the help of catalysts every year. It is therefore logical that
scientists are constantly searching for new improved catalysts which will
improve efficiency or produce a greater yield.
An acidic catalyst works due its acid nature. Catalysts are strong
acids and readily give up hydrogen ions, or protons: H+. Protons can be released
from hydrated ions, for example H3O+, but more commonly they are released from
ionisable hydroxyl groups (R-OH) wh .....
