Earthquakes
<view this essay>.... in general and then about how
predictions are made.
Earthquake, "vibrations produced in the earth's crust when rocks in
which elastic strain has been building up suddenly rupture, and then
rebound."(Associated Press 1993) The vibrations can range from barely noticeable
to catastrophically destructive. Six kinds of shock waves are generated in the
process. Two are classified as body waves—that is, they travel through the
earth's interior—and the other four are surface waves. The waves are further
differentiated by the kinds of motions they impart to rock particles. Primary or
compressional waves (P waves) send particles oscillating back and fo .....

Leprosy 2
<view this essay>.... that still remain. The following paper attempts to provide some background information on what is known about leprosy and then attempts to investigate certain aspects of the disease that are unknown. A description of the classification, mechanism of infection, transmission, distribution, and treatment of the disease will be provided. After reviewing the background material, a great deal of questions may arise as to how exactly this disease is spread from person to person and what conditions promote infection. For example, one may wish to investigate the following:
1) Mycobacterium leprae as yet to be cultured in laboratory media? Why?
2) Why is leprosy s .....

Birds
<view this essay>.... of Antarctica to the hottest parts of the tropics and from mountains,
deserts, plains, and facts to open oceans and deeply urbanized areas.
The sizes of birds range from the tiny bee hummingbird, which has a
total length of two and a half inches, to the albatross, which has a wing span
of eleven and a half feet. The largest bird is a bird that cannot fly, the
ostrich. Ostriches can stand almost eight feet high and can weigh near 350
pounds. Other extinct birds have been measured to stand over ten feet high.
The evolution of birds is still being argued. Most people believe that
birds evolved from reptiles. Because of birds mainly delicate bones, few foss .....

Gold
<view this essay>.... The purity of gold is measured in karats. Pure
gold is 24-karats. It is said that gold is so soft in it's purist form that
gold bars can be indented by your hands if pressed on. Jewelers often use
18-karat gold, which is three fourths gold. The lower the karat of the gold,
the more alloy is in it. An alloy is a metal mixed with another metal to
make that metal stronger. This metal is used in many ways including, tooth
filling because it doesn't rust away or crack, also it is used for the
covering or sealing of an astronaut's helmet. Gold is also a very good
conductor of electricity.
As you can see, gold is an element that is not only a great gift

Acid Rain 10
<view this essay>.... nitrous acid:
NO2(g) + H2O(l) = HNO3(aq) + HNO2(aq)
Sulfur dioxide is a colorless, prudent gas released as a by-product of combusted fossil fuels containing sulfur. What causes this is a variety of industrial processes, such as the production of iron and steel, utility factories, and crude oil processing. In iron and steel production, the smelting of metal sulfate ore produces pure metal. This causes the release of sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide can also be emitted into the atmosphere ny natural disasters or means. This ten percent of all sulfur dioxide emission comes from volcanoes, sea spray, plankton, and rotting vegetation.
The oxides of nitrogen .....

Ocean Environment
<view this essay>.... all of the seas of the
world at a variety of depths. When analyzed, the samples were found to have
quite similar characteristics. These findings convinced many that a method of
study was needed. The study of oceans was named oceanography.
Density, salinity, and temperature are very important concepts in the
study of oceanography. The salinity and temperature of the water influence its
density, and the differences in density are the major factor in understanding
the formation of currents and the positions of water masses in the sea. In
addition, temperature and salinity play major roles in influencing the
distribution of plants and animals.
The sediments .....

The Rain Forest - Example Of A Flourishing Ecosystem
<view this essay>.... in the end.
A rainforest is a complicated structure which is put together from an
unlimited amount elements that all work together. A hole anywhere in this
system can cause a breakdown that effects the entire structure.
The bottom of the rainforest is the soil upon which everything must
grow. Wherever rainforests are found, sandy red coloured soil can be found
as well. This soil contains few nutrients, which is why attempting to grow
any sort of crops would be futile. On top of this soil is a thin layer of
humus, which simply said is the compost made from the millions of dead
animals and plants of the forest. When things such as leaves .....

Comets
<view this essay>.... travels with the nucleus. The coma may be up to 100,000 kilometers in diameter. The third feature of a comet is the head. The head is just the name given to the coma and nucleus.
The last of the features of the comet are the tails. Most have two tails. One tail is made from dust particles and the other, called ion tail, is made gases. As a comet approaches the sun, the frozen gas becomes unfrozen which causes the dust particles to become free. Light pressure from the sun and some other forces cause these materials to move away from the head of the comet and in the opposite direction from the sun. According to Charles A. Schweighauser in his book, .....
