Computer Graphics
<view this essay>.... they edit entire features while adding sound that is not only stored digitally, but also has been created and manipulated with computers. Viewers are witnessing the results of all this in the form of stories and experiences that they never dreamed of before. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of all this, however, is that the entire digital effects and animation industry is still in its infancy. The future looks bright.
How It Was
In the beginning, computer graphics were as cumbersome and as hard to control as dinosaurs must have been in their own time. Like dinosaurs, the hardware systems, or muscles, of early computer graphics were huge and ungainly .....

Lightning
<view this essay>.... more, and millions of dollars in property damage, in the United States alone.
It is difficult to obtain accurate statistics on injuries and fatalities since a systematic compilation of information on casualties does not exist. Many case histories show heart damage. Inflated lungs and brain damage have also been observed from fatalities. Loss of consciousness, amnesia, paralysis and burns are reported by many who have survived. Deaths and injuries to livestock and other animals, thousands of forest and brush fires, as well as millions of dollars in damage to buildings, communications systems, power lines, and electrical systems are also the result of . Final .....

Army Ants
<view this essay>.... army ants or soldier ants have is that they forage in masses for food.
These masses of ants travel together and are able to overcome and capture other
social insects and large anthropoids, they may occasionally kill larger animals
but they do not eat them. As the need for food for the larvae increases, food
gathering raids become more intense.
The hunting raids made by ants are carried out by "armies" of thousands
of ants and set out from the bivouac in various directions. They form two or
three parties going out simultaneously in different directions for 100 yards or
more. In the U.S. army we attack countries in different areas to weaken the
force we are att .....

Acid Rain
<view this essay>.... but the coal that we mine is not pure carbon. It is mixed with
other minerals. Two of these are sulfur and nitrogen. Then the coal is burned
some of the sulfur changes into sulfur dioxide and nitrogen changes into
nitrogen oxide. These escape in to the air as poisonous gases. Some smokestacks
release chemicals like mercury, arsenic, and aluminum. Some of these minerals
are changed in to gases and others become tiny specks of ash. As these
chemicals drift, they may change again. They may react with other chemicals in
the air. When sulfur dioxide combines with water, the result is sulfuric acid.
When nitrogen oxide gas combines with water, the resul .....

I.t. Doctors Database Analysis
<view this essay>.... of loads of paper-based files in a big fat cabinet away. If you were to misplace a file in your office, it would probably be hard to find it, whereas if you lost a file on a computer you could use the find utility in Microsoft Windows 95, 98 or 2000 (by pressing the button and F at the same time) and the file would be found in a few seconds. On a computer you could automatically put the files in alphabetical order by whatever- name, GP, date of birth e.t.c. However, in an office cabinet it really would not be easy at all to put and keep the files in some sort of alphabetical sequence.
Currently the database is pen-and-paper based, which may be cost effective .....

El-nino
<view this essay>.... to time by naturally occurring oscillations in atmospheric pressure and ocean movements in th equatorial Pacific. The warmer ocean pumps more energy and moisture into the atmosphere and this in turn alters wind and rainfall patterns around the world. The atmospheric cirulation also changes when the sea-surface temperatures in the eastern tropical Pacific rise above normal. In normal, non-El Nino conditions, the trade winds blow towards the west across the tropical Pacific. These winds pile up warm water in the west Pacific, so that the sea surface is about 1/2 meter higher at Indonesia than at Ecuador. The sea surface temperature is about 8 degrees C highe .....

Apollo 13 (AS-508): Houston, We Have A Problem.
<view this essay>.... until the fans in cryogenic
oxygen tank 2 were turned on at 55:53:18 ground elapsed time (GET). About 2
seconds after energizing the fan circuit, a short was indicated in the current
from fuel cell 3, which was supplying power to cryogenic oxygen tank 2 fans.
Within several additional seconds, two other shorted conditions occurred.
Electrical shorts in the fan circuit ignited the wire insulation, causing
temperature and pressure to increase within cryogenic oxygen tank 2. When
pressure reached the cryogenic oxygen tank 2 relief valve full-flow conditions
of 1008 psi, the pressure began decreasing for about 9 seconds, at which time
the relief valve probab .....

Fusion Energy
<view this essay>.... Fusion requires no energy and realeases energy in a great surplus.
It also has no environmental problems and causes no pollutions whatsoever.
The problems with fusion are the molecules of hydrogen that are
supposed to be fused, electro-statically repel each other at a great force.
The only way to create the conditions where the it is possible to force
these atoms together and override their repulsion is through enormous heat,
this method is called thermonuclear.
Even though fusion reasearch still needs a lot of time, there has been
some progress in discovering how we can use this. The two fusion reactions
that are the most promising both .....
