The Real Reason Behind The Rec
<view this essay>.... As evidence did arrive, it was discovered that the child lived in a household where cocaine, heroin, and many other illegal drugs were commonplace. Also in this “home” guns were easily accessible to the child. Children growing up in this type of environment certainly are likely to be held accountable for future violence. Even though I am against the news media presenting too much school violence, Americans should have been deeply disturbed by this shooting because of the child’s young age. The Michigan shooting should have enlightened Americans to the dilemma we face in this country. Two weeks after the Columbine High School shooting, information on the mas .....

Homeless
<view this essay>.... especially evident in Canada's wealthiest city, Toronto. When it comes to the affairs of the people, it is the government who should intervene. When I look at what the government has done with regard to the problem, I have to doubt that everything is being done to eradicate it. The United Nations implemented a universal declaration of human rights. Article 25 Section 1 of this declaration states: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care and necessary social services, and to the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, .....

The Right To Keep And Bear Arms
<view this essay>.... end of the spectrum you have
groups like the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) and Handgun Control, Inc.
seek to make most firearms accessible only to law enforcement and the military
("CSGV" 1). In the middle there are organizations such as the American Firearms
Association, who seek compromise regarding our rights (Lissabet, "Return" 2).
Some organizations that one would expect to participate in this debate are
noticeably quiet. One such group is the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
In "The ACLU on Gun Control", the national ACLU policy is neutrality (1).
All factions in this debate have some merit, some more than others. All use a
mixture of f .....

Models Of Political Ideology
<view this essay>.... ideological spectrum. First, however, to explain the importance of the square model verses the linear model, the understanding of the different elements involved in these models must be explained.
There are five main elements/political philosophies in most American political ideology models: left-liberal, right-conservative, authoritarian, libertarian, and moderate. The first, left-liberals, believe in governing themselves on personal matters, but they want government to control economics. The left-liberals "want government to serve the disadvantaged in the name of fairness. Leftists tolerate social diversity, but work for economic equality" (Libertarian 1). .....

Government's Welfare Programs
<view this essay>.... help to reduce crime.
Welfare's benefits far out weigh its drawbacks. Welfare generally helps poor
families survive in today's economy by providing a means for them to obtain food
while they search for a job. These families receive foodstamps, to purchase food,
and a small amount of dollars to aid with either rent or utilities. Because of
this income from welfare, crime is reduced. This is because there is now more
income so the poor no longer have the need to go out and commit crimes to
attain that income. Welfare also aids in improving the economy because the
children of these families can afford to go to school and have a chance to make
someone of themselve .....

James Madison's Opinion Why A Republic Is Better Than A Democracy
<view this essay>.... political
faction gains power, that there are substantial safeguards in place.
Here's where Madison assumes a little too much. He states that if a
large faction were represented by a small number of representatives that
their overall impact would be limited because of the large numbers of other
representatives leading other factions. Therefore, the more political
parties that you have, the more "fair" the government will be. Compromise
between representatives will have to occur to run the government
effectively.
Madison had now way of knowing, but suppose a large number of
representatives are all controlled by ONE faction...you still have th .....

Desensitized America
<view this essay>.... in our school systems. I can remember my freshman year that there was a bombing in a primary school in Scotland. I cannot even remember all of the details, but it was a truly tragic event. The fact that I cannot remember too much more of this story is an example about how we have become desensitized toward violence in schools. I think that every other day we hear instances of this type of horror. Obviously the one that stands out in my mind is the Columbine tragedy, but in between the huge stories, are the instances that are just as tragic but get less press. So many times we hear of children bringing guns to school, teens that play around with guns that do .....

Analysis Of Gangs
<view this essay>.... I believe there is good evidence to point the blame at several institutions. These include the forces of the media, theater, drugs, the government, and our economic system.
By looking at the forces of the media, theater, drugs, and the capitalist economic system we can apply Akers’ social learning theory and the Marxist theory as the cause of Gangs. Akers’ social learning theory addresses the forces of the media, theater, and drugs. Akers’ social learning theory states that criminal and delinquent behavior are acquired, repeated, and changed by the same process as conforming behavior. It also addresses four major concepts of differential association, def .....
