The Apathy Of Generation X
<view this essay>.... of elected officials. There are reasons that young people do not vote, or get involved in political actions. They range from apathy to just plain not having enough time. One of the larger reasons is that most candidates are much older then those 18-25. This would put the generation gap in between candidates and the youthful voters. A 19 year old Trinity College student remarks about Bob Dole, I think he is making himself look older by speaking about certain issues we (young people) can not relate to. When asked to give an example the student stated, "he made a reference to World War I, I thought he was going to say he fought in that one too!" (www.mtv.com/ch .....

A Balanced Budget?
<view this essay>.... Federal Budget? Every politician on
Capitol Hill claims to have the answer. The Federal Government goes as far to
employ some of the most renowned economist's in the world to try to solve the
deficit mess, and they still haven't figured it out.
The budget simulation exercise by The Committee for a Responsible
Federal Budget provided choices Congress has to use as its guide for the
upcoming year. How hard can it be to balance the budget I thought? After doing
the exercised I realized the title of the simulation exercise, "The FY 1997
Budget: An Exercise in Hard Choices," could not have been more appropriate. It
is possible though to balance the Federal Budget .....

The Effects Of Progressivism In Government
<view this essay>.... reforms intended to achieve this. The middle
class, frightened by the economic unrest of the 1890's and the actions of
giant business organizations, was more willing to accept progressive
reforms than it had been earlier. After the quick victory in the Spanish-
American War, there was a new feeling of confidence in the nation's future.
Progressivism had many aims.

Should A Moment Of Silence Be
<view this essay>.... they can pray or do as they choose.
The case Engel v. Vitale in 1962 decided that school prayer is unconstitutional. With this case, it was pointed out that the students were to "voluntarily" recite the following prayer: "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our country." The court ruled that this rule was unconstitutional according to the First Amendment's "establishment clause," which states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Gender Role Reversal
<view this essay>.... many negatives that I believe can accompany being a male. I feel in some incidents women can manipulate situations with body language, but men must use material or external influence to achieve this type of manipulation. The movie "Erin Brockovich" immensely demonstrates this characteristic. Julia Roberts portrays a poor, single mother who uses her cleavage in a few situations to get what she wants. Another negative characteristic I feel about being a male would not being able to buy and wear female clothing. I wanted to make sure that I took into consideration what is negative about the entire gender role itself from a male's perspective. So, I got onto the .....

The Government And Environmental Policy
<view this essay>.... The main factors involved with the Endangered
Species Act of 1973 involve horizontal implementation structure and divided
government. Before one can discuss how these policies affect environmental
legislation, a brief description of each must first be lucidly explained. When
our government was founded, a system of checks and balances was implemented
between the executive, judicial, and legislative branches to ensure that no one
part of government gets too much power. Although this limits the power of any
one person in government, it often slows down the ability of government because
a consensus can be difficult with so many people working together. Anoth .....
