Oedipus Rex
<view this essay>.... to end this mystery of the death of Laios as quickly as possible, Oedipus passes an edict to kill anyone who withholds information. Teiresias tested Oedipus’ patience in the beginning of the story with information he was withholding; “For you would rouse a very stone to wrath…” (pg. 13). This impatient accusing of Teiresias proved to be bad, especially since Teiresias foretold the ending of the story. If Oedipus had been more patient and waited, he might have not been quite so upset about the future, nor shaken up about what was to happen.
However, that one trait did not alone take away his position of high authority. Oedipus displayed anger throughout t .....

Macbeth - Nature Vs. The Unnatural

Now o’er the one-half world
Nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse
The curtained sleep. (53)

Some say the earth
Was feverous and did shake. (65)
The earth shaking symbolizing the humans fear and shock of the recent events. .....

Julius Caesar: Loyalty
<view this essay>.... Even respected by the
men that cursed him with death. Why would men that loved and respected one
kill them? Loyalty is the answer. A feeling of loyalty for your country
that surpassed the loyalty of righteous virtues. Perhaps if loyalty had
not been involved, the country of Rome would not have been torn apart. Or
perhaps if loyalty to all and everything had been involved a great ruler
named Caesar would have reigned for years. If the people of Rome would
have remained loyal to Caesar perhaps a war would not have occurred, in
fact, it most certainly would not have. After the death, the angry mob
should have put the conspirators to death, not let them .....

Violence On The Tube
<view this essay>.... is just a minor factor that leads to real-life
violence and that it is the parents responsibility to teach kids the difference.
According to Rathus in Psychology in the New Millennium, observational
learning may account for most human learning (239). Observational learning
extends to observing parents and peers, classroom learning, reading books, and
learning from media such as television and films. Nearly all of us have been
exposed to television, videotapes, and films in the classroom. Children in day-
care centers often watch Sesame Street. There are filmed and videotaped
versions of great works of literature such as Orson Welles' Macbeth. Nea .....

King Lear: Justice
<view this essay>.... and the punishment of evil. King Lear, a play by William Shakespeare,
is a grave tragedy that is a prime example of the Elizabethan conception of
justice. Lear's kingdom turns to chaos because of a break in the "Great
Chain of Being" and restores to order when justice prevails. Its tragic
labelling stems from the prevalence of death the just punishment for many
of its characters. The deaths of Lear, Goneril, and Edmund are prime
examples of justice prevailing for evil, and in Lear's case unnatural, acts.
Lear's ultimate fate is death. His early demise is a direct result of
breaching the "Great Chain of Being" which states that no mortal will

Media And The Military
<view this essay>.... and real time video of our troops
being slaughtered during battles of the Tet offensive and the siege of Khe
Sahn were sent home for all of America to see (Klein 50-51). Again, war is
not pretty and the way you keep morale up is you don't let the public know
how bad war really is.
Television is one of the most powerful tools of media and “by the
mid 1960's television had become the most important source for news for
most of the American public, and beyond that, perhaps, the most powerful
single influence on the public.” (Hallin 106) So people trusted what
reporters like Walter Cronkite were telling them. They believed it when
NBC journalists told them thing .....

Hamlet: Ophelia And Gertrude
<view this essay>.... he beseech her name and her virginity. She truly
loves Hamlet and is devastated when he shuns her and pretends to be mad.
Hamlet's treatment towards these two women shapes and brings life to
their characters and eventually bring s an end to their characters as well.
Gertrude is a kind and loving mother. The kind that guards after her son
through thick and through thin and loves unconditionally. Hamlet had suspected
her of aiding in the killing of King Hamlet. That will be discussed later.
Her character is the one character in the play that I believe does not
develop but rather stays identical to the scene in which she is introduced(Act I,
scene II). She is .....

Predestined Fate Of Oedipus
<view this essay>.... ago.
This behavior obviously didn't please the gods and thus they punished Oedipus'
family for several generations. When Iocaste and Laios gave birth to Oedipus
they were aware of the prophecy that he would one day kill his father and then
marry his mother. With this in mind they tried to have Oedipus killed to avoid
this horrible fate. However they couldn't kill him themselves because murder of
their own son would get the gods angry all over again. So they tried to get some
one to take Oedipus out to the mountains and let him die of natural causes. Some
people might argue that they are still indirectly responsible for the death but
apparently the Greeks only .....
