Shakespeare’s Macbeth And Dostoevsky’s Raskolnikov: Literary Philosophies
<view this essay>.... trusted general, Macbeth, both demonstrated a great deal of potential early in the stories. Neither man was a mean nor selfish individual. Macbeth originally portrayed a courageous soldier and a loyal man; he praised King Duncan and was very successful on the battlefield. Likewise, Raskolnikov’s thoughts and actions confirmed he was a compassionate individual. When he saw the young girl being followed by the suspicious man, he immediately called the police and tried to protect the girl. When his friendly acquaintance Marmeladov died, Raskolnikov gave his last twenty rubles to Katerina, Marmeladov’s wife. He did not want to see her suffer any more than he .....

The Sea Dogs... Puppets In A Political War
<view this essay>.... known sea dogs include John
Hawkins, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Sir Francis Drake. Drake was by far the
most popular of all the sea dogs. It is said that he accumulated the most
wealth of anyone in the pirating business (Wood 102). Sir Walter Raleigh
was another sea dog, but he didn't prove to be as successful (Cochran 32).
Another pirate during the Middle Ages was John Hawkins. He robbed the
Spaniards of slaves and riches (Cochran 26). Together these three men were
accountable for what would be worth millions and millions of dollars being
converted from Spanish hands to English.
These three sea dogs were not just part time pirates though.
Pirating was th .....

Greek Architecture
<view this essay>.... human form, as
anthropomorphic representations of the forces and elements of the natural
world. These gods and goddesses were worshiped with sacrifices made at an
outdoor altar. At many sanctuaries, the altar was much older than the
temple, and some sanctuaries had only an altar. The temple designed simply
as a shelter or home for the cult statue and as a storehouse for offerings.
This shelter consisted of a cella (back wall), a pronaos (columned porch),
an opisthodomus (enclosure), an antae (bronze grills securing the porches),
and a colonnade that provided shelter for visitors.
The earliest monumental buildings in Greek architecture were the
temples. Sin .....

Women In Macbeth
<view this essay>.... for this reason in lines 39-43 she asks for evil spirits to "unsex" her so she can become a genderless, pitiless fiend.
In my view one of the most important lines in the play is when Lady Macbeth says "Come, you spirits/That tend on mortal thoughts! unsex me here,". I think that Shakespeare is showing us that, you must be careful what you wish for.
When Macbeth returns to his castle Lady Macbeth greets him with joy, addressing him as "Great Glamis". Macbeth tells her "Duncan comes here to-night". Upon hearing this Lady Macbeth says "O never/Shall sun that morrow see! She sees Duncans coming not only as an opportunity to murder Duncan, but also as a sign of .....

Hamlet: The Cause Of Ophelia's Insanity
<view this essay>.... rage, he provides Ophelia with the ultimate medium for her
ensuing madness. The murder of Polonius is the greatest among many factors
that were contributed by Hamlet to the somber fate of Ophelia.
A prelude, composed of warnings from Polonius and Laertes, is
tactfully set up by Shakespeare during Ophelia's initial appearances in the
play, aiding in the preparation for her subsequent mental deterioration.
Pol.
What is between you? Give me up the truth.
Oph.
He hath, ny lord, of late made many tenders
Of his affection to me.
Pol.
Affection, puh! You speak like a green girl
Unsifted in such perilous circumstance.
Do you believe his "tenders .....

The History Of Greek Theater
<view this essay>.... of the early Greek world was
the supernatural. The two worlds were not separate, as the gods lived in the
same world as the men, and they interfered in the men's lives as they chose to.
It was the gods who sent suffering and evil to men. In the plays of Sophocles,
the gods brought about the hero's downfall because of a tragic flaw in the
character of the hero.
In Greek tragedy, suffering brought knowledge of worldly matters and of
the individual. Aristotle attempted to explain how an audience could observe
tragic events and still have a pleasurable experience. Aristotle, by searching
the works of writers of Greek tragedy, Aeschulus, Euripides and Sopho .....

Forever Swing
<view this essay>.... dealing with the pain. Some took more of a stand than others, but everyone feared what was surrounding their lives and engulfing their world.
In Bettelheim’s essay, “Behavior in Extermination Camps”, we are taught that some of the German’s refused to believe that there actually was a problem. If possible, they would carry out their day turning a blind eye to the devastation that swirled before them. Most of them justified the acts in concentration camps by saying, “…the acts of torture were committed by a small group of insane or perverted persons” (page 151). Also, the German government did an outstanding job of using propaganda to deny the truth about t .....

Barney Vs. Sesame Street
<view this essay>.... the audiences' attention. The show is slower and more
understandable than Sesame Street.
Barney focuses on one topic for every show. The one that I watched,
entitled "Up We Go", was about flying. You learn about kites, birds, planes and
more. You get more out of the show than if it was about many topics like Sesame
Street. The one we saw had many topics like eating healthy, dental hygiene, the
airport and more. The child can have an overload of ideas for one day and get
all mixed up.
Both Barney and Sesame Street have songs in them. I found that Barney
had many more songs than Sesame Street. The songs are used as jolts and they
work well in .....
