Happiness In Brave New
<view this essay>.... society sees it: the ability to pursue and enjoy individual desires.
The conditioning of minds allows the government to impress its ideas upon maturing children. The process used is hypnopædia, or repetition of sayings during sleep. After many repetitions of one phrase, the idea is hardened within the human mind, proving most difficult to undo. Evidence of this method to provide artificial happiness surfaces in both Lenina and Bernard’s actions. Huxley states this coldly during Lenina’s trip home with Henry Foster, “‘What a hideous color khaki is,’ remarked Lenina, voicing the hypnopædic prejudices of her caste” (62). Khaki is a color worn by lower c .....

Devil S Advocate
<view this essay>.... the parts of Kevin and Milton are played superbly by Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. I especially enjoyed the section of the movie when Kevin discovers that Milton is his long-lost father. This adds a great deal of drama to the situation, something that is necessary in a film such as "Devil's Advocate".
One of the observations I made about the film was that Kevin's legal talents are the Devil's instruments of choice. It is his legal practices that destroy his wife and eventually lead to her horrifying death. An important quote which I recall was when Milton (Al Pacino) says, "nobody on earth could do his bidding better than a well trained band of attorneys". .....

Man For All Seasons 2
<view this essay>.... Henry VIII was seeking approval from Thomas in obtaining a divorce from his wife Catherine because she was not able to produce any heirs to the throne. The King was looking for his approval because Thomas was respected by society. The King already had other peoples’ approval . Thomas was a representative of the older spirituality, wherein the Church was as a sacred institution and an instrument of God’s will, and which ought to be outside politics. The .....

Winter
<view this essay>.... in a cloud of dust. The shining sun reflected off the clean white snow causing my eyes to squint reflexively. I looked towards the red berries peeking through freshly fallen snow. The ice the clung to the tree branches looked like filed of crystal surrounding me.
The sounds of echoed around me. The wind whistled through the creaking branches and the birds sang a somber song. I heard the icicles falling into the slow-moving river as Canadian Geese made their presence known. Their honking voices made my spine shiver with the reality of the dreary season upon me. From afar I heard the faint whisper of car engines driving slowly on the slippery roads. The .....

In addition, after his frightening discovery, Fred thoughtlessly flees the scene instead of making any attempt to save Mr. Haskell. Preceding the accident, Fred's intense determination to hide the truth is illustrated clearly with this quote: "'I'll never tell,' he told himself. 'They'll never even suspect me.'" It is quite evident that most of the responsibility in this situation belongs to Fred.
Furthermore, Fred's parents' lack of responsibility indirectly contributes to Mr. Haskel .....
