Beowulf
<view this essay>.... it's people think they are in their
greatest danger, the people of Herot "sacrificed to the old stone gods / Made
heathen vows / hoping for Hell's Support, the Devil's guidance in driving their
affliction off." (175-178). With the use of the word "old" in this section, it
can be inferred that the stone gods are things of the past. The rest of the
passage shows that it was because of the doubt and fear, instilled in the people
by Grendel, that the people of Herot regressed back to their old gods. The use
of the word "heathen" shows that the soldiers were already Christian and
reverted back to their old ways.
Soon after this statement, the poem reads: .....

Longfellows Optimism In Writin
<view this essay>.... and interpreted it as a sign to look at life as fleeting and it passes quickly. I feel that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, after his wife’s death, had an optimistic view on life in the poem, “A Psalm of Life”.
The second stanza seems to say that life is here and it must be lived. It is real and not just some dream. Line five supports this with the hopeful exclamation that “Life is real! Life is earnest!” In the next line he says “And the grave is not its goal”. Longfellow feels you don’t live to die. Death is not the point of living a just life. Lastly in this stanza, he states, ”Dust thou art, o dust returnest, was not spoken of the soul”. Our bodies wi .....

Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Com
<view this essay>.... and the unbreakable laws of nature. Shelley wanted readers to realize that we need to accept life and death, and not try to control it because life is the “Act of God” and we cannot change that. She was implying that there are consequences for fooling with these laws of life and death. Even if you can create life out of dead body parts, just doing that, may ruin your whole perspective of the world, and throw anyone into a state of depression. This movie “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein” by Kenneth Branagh is a good representation of the original book overall, except for a few changes in plot, setting, characters,, and the rel .....

Unwritten Rules
<view this essay>.... of white people to stay separated from black people. One can see in " Incident" by Countee Cullen and "Telephone Conversation" by Wole Soyinka, similarities that demonstrate the historical and sociological impact of this era on African Americans.
"Incident" and "Telephone Conversation" both reflect a historical period in America that deprived African Americans of basic freedoms. These poems show in simplistic situations that many prejudices held against African Americans during that time period. Historically, the 1930s was a time period when black Americans were made to feel as if they were subordinate to the majority. Cullen and Soyinka both reveal how bla .....

I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag...
<view this essay>.... sang songs to it in music class; studied its history in Social class; drew pictures of it in Art class; and knew it well enough to praise it when we became experienced enough to write for ourselves in English class. They taught us to be proud of the flag. And in 1989, when it was burned on the steps of Capitol Hill, it confused our young minds as to why someone who do so.
