In Our Time
<view this essay>.... scene of Nick
struggling with his pack, setting up his tent, and cooking his food. I have also
done all the things that Nick was doing by the river and I was able to
understand his satisfaction at pulling up a sound tent. Little sentences like
"He was careful not to let the hook bite into his finger" convey so much meaning
to anyone who has ever tried to tighten a fishing hook on a line that you can
only help but nod your head in agreement.
I must admit that despite not being at the center of your course I could not
help but think of how much Hemingway's content was influenced by his life. Many
of the stories like "The Doctor and the Doctor's Wife" were based .....

Comparison Of "The Devil And Tom Walker" And "The Devil And Daniel Webster"
<view this essay>.... more about Jabez Stone's
farm and his bad luck, like when he plants corn, he gets borers. The only
real detail he gives about the surroundings is that he lives on the Cross
Corners of New Hampshire and that he's on a farm. The story doesn't give
much description on what his house looks like or the scenery.
Also, in “The Devil and Daniel Webster” it tells the story at a quicker
pace. Jabez meets the Devil and makes a deal before the story and plot
really develop very much. In the “Devil and Tom Walker” the story goes into
a lot of details about how his house is raggedy, ugly, and trashy looking.
No man traveling ever stops at their house. His wife hides t .....

A Farewell To Arms
<view this essay>.... Catherine's topsy-turvy one, and then
letting each one assume a role which will bring them
closer together, Hemingway shows the pair's inability to
accept "the hard, gratuitous quality of life."
Stubbs begins by showing other examples, notably in In Our
Time and The Sun Also Rises, in which Hemingway's characters
revert to role-playing in order to escape or retreat from
their lives. The ability to create characters who play
roles, he says, either to "maintain self-esteem" or to
escape, is one Hemingway exploits extraordinarily well in A
Farewell to Arms and therefore it "is his richest and most
successful handling of human being .....

My Lost Love
<view this essay>.... talked in the park for about an hour and a half.
She told me her name was Kristeen Thorne and told me that she was
a new student at Orangeville High School; the same school I
attended. We found that we had six out of seven classes together,
which was a very good thing. I asked her to go out with me that
Friday night. We went to the movies first, and then we went to
Vinnie Vicci's Italian restaurant. The date was perfect and the
person I was with made the date seem like Heaven. We dated non-
exclusively for about one month. On our one month anniversary, I
gave her my letter jacket which I earned playing varsity
football. And while I did that, I asked .....

Johnny Got His Gun
<view this essay>.... The story’s purpose as a whole is to inform that war is not filled with glory but pain and suffering. Life is something much to valuable to be taken for granted. People say I’d rather die with honor than live with disgrace. These are the words of stupidity because no one knows what death is like and there is no turning back after you are dead. Johnny was fortunate enough to be alive after the bomb exploded, however he was operated on so much that the only thing left was a living stump. He could not see, eat, breath, smell, touch, or walk. Only in that state can a person really appreciates life. to fight for a cause, but what was that cause? Was he fighting to .....

Jane Eyre - Fire And Water
<view this essay>.... thematic detail, and establish mood. In Jane Eyre, fire imagery has a strong metaphorical significance, representing passion, sexual desire and the heat of emotion and feeling. Brontë's use of fire imagery is very appropriate in that fire, as is with the passions, can provide warmth and comfort, but can also burn. Water, the antithesis of fire, represents the extreme point of cool reason, without any trace of passion. Eric Solomon writes, "The fire is in Jane’s spirit and in Rochester’s eyes…St. John Rivers contains the icy waters that would put out fire, destroy passion" (Solomon, 73). As Jane wanders between these two points of temptation throug .....

Our Secret
<view this essay>.... paper with added information. She tells throughout the book about these recollections.
The author starts the essay with an interviewee and adds in the first fragment about V-1 rockets. Then the interviewee's story mixed in with a biology fragment. The author uses this type of fragment to relate to subjects farther down the essay which makes each fragment relate to the content. Fragments that are used help to explain human nature, insides and outsides, everything affected by past, secrets, cause and effect, and development. All of these factors can go with the stories of Heinrich Himmler, Gebhard (Dad of Himmler), Laura (story in beginning), Heinz, Wernher .....

Ethan Frome- Charachter Analys
<view this essay>.... him from leaving his wife for a woman who he is in love with. This says a lot about Ethan’s character. Not only is he very loyal, caring, and honest, but his morals and standards are something for everybody to admire.
After reading this story, one might get the impression that Ethan got what he deserved for trying to leave Zeena. However, on closer examination, we can see that although he wanted to leave Zeena, not in a physical way but by death, he still couldn’t. His loyalty to his wife forbade him. We can see this when Wharton writes, “ But suddenly his wife’s face, with twisted monstrous lineaments, thrust itself between .....
