The African-American traditions that Angelou uses so well can be traced from Africa to America through cultural traditions, music, and religion. At an English-as-Second-Language workshop I attended at Metro State University in St. Paul, Dr. Beverly Hill discussed how writers from different cultures often have distinct rhetorical traditions on which they base their writing. One of the examples she used was the oral tradition of many African tribes which led to the adoption of the parable as a means of passing along information. Parable and storytell .....

In the begining of the novel he is at Malcom's lecture. Your first impression of Levine is that he is rude and intrusive. He inturrupted Malcom in the middle of his lecture. Later in the story he helps out Malcom in his search for "Site B." Levine's character provides some very interesting views on the mission to "Site B." Sarah Harding is a field researcher in the African Plains. She specializes in the behavior of hyenas. She knew Malcom from personnal affairs. After his near death expierience on they were close but .....

.... in "thunder and lightning". Right from the start, the witches create a mysterious atmosphere. The fact that they meet in conditions and in an open area which is away from the prying eyes of society, suggests that they are up to something secret, and as we know they are witches, we assume, whatever they are up to, will be evil and something they do not wish to disclose to anybody else. It is also a fact, that in Shakespearean times, turbulent and dramatic weather such as this, meant that the earth's elements were uneasy, and foretold that something disastrous was to happen. The evil witches seem to be at ease in weather conditions such as these, and it appears .....

This poem is choppy at timed, but it flows smoothly at others. Long hyphens throughout the poem slow down reading speed. This could be compared to the rate of decay. Sometimes decay is rapid, sometimes it is slow. the last three parts of the poem’s structure help create its figurative meaning. Imagery is Dickinson’s main figurative tool in this poem. the idea that crumbling is progressive is supported by the last two lines of the first stanza, which state, "Dilapidation’s processes Are or .....

The surroundings however are picturesque, the true beauty of nature in bloom, no more evident than when the men are tarring the roof in summer. She didn’t take their light-headed attitude when it came to love. She felt it was a privilege to gain the confidence of another, but she couldn’t risk falling in love.
