Franny And Zooey: Childhood
<view this essay>.... who
we are, what we will be, what our future hold. For example, I have recently
learned that, in many cases, an abused child will result in a loathsome and
abusive adult. The process continues geeneration after generation. This is
devestating because his or her child has absolutely no power in controlling the
early events of their childhood. An abused child is not at fault of the results
of their childhood. A child is easily susceptible to having the rest of his or
her life ruined, such as being emotionally scarred.
I believe this happened in Franny and Zooey's case as children. They came from
a relatively large family, consisting of two parents and s .....

In the background you see the oriental couple standing outside their mini-mart as they too try and survive in a global village. Pino is telling his father how tired he is of trying to run their business in a black neighborhood as he asks, "Could we sell this and open up a new pizza parlor in our own neighborhood? Barnlund further explores this surcumstance when he says; "It is a feeling of helplessness, even of terror or anger, that accompanies working in an alien society. One feels trapped in an absurd and indecipherable nightmare" .....

In the deep, dark portions of the forest, many of the pivotal characters bring
forth hidden thoughts and emotions. The forest track leads away from the
settlement out into the wilderness where all signs of civilization vanish. This

refuge where men, as well as women, can open up, and be themselves. It is here

Pearl's Contribution To The Scarlet Letter
<view this essay>.... others. Pearl was portrayed as a
stereotypical "victim of Hester's sin", adultery, because as she walks
through town with her mother the other kids shout and curse at her. Pearl
takes it in stride and defends her mother and fends off the evil children.
The adults of Boston, mostly Puritans, talk behind Hester's back about the
child being one of a sinner. Another common stereotype filled by Pearl is

to do. When Hester went to the woods to meet with Dimmesdale, Pearl went
off to play in the brook while the two adults talked and then she stopped
when her mother called. A second examp .....
