Silas Marner: Eliot's Manipulation
<view this essay>.... the novel with the first time span taking place in Silas' desolate cramped cottage in Raveloe. This is an important time span because what is learned here about Silas contributes to the whole novel. Silas wants to stay away from social human life and keep to himself. He takes the job of a weaver so that he can be alone at his work. We learn from his flashback of 15 years earlier that he comes to the village of Raveloe because he has been falsely accused of stealing by the members of his religious sect in Lantern Yard, his hometown. Having lost faith in both God and man, he seeks a new life in Raveloe with new inhabitants, and falls into a routine of work .....

All The Kings Men 2

Jack Burden and Judge Montague Irwin defiantly feel the effects of the spider. Jack Burden, at the request of Governor Willie Stark, dug up dirt on Judge Irwin. Jack gets in over his head when he finds more than he wanted to know about Judge Irwin. That’s when everything does upside-down, and the spider gets them. The Judge kills himself, which affected many people. One of the people that it affected was Jack. Jack found out that the Judge was his biological father and never had the chance to have his .....

Lord Of The Flies: The Beast Within Us
<view this essay>.... story,
the lord of the flies is right in saying that man is inherently evil. This
presence of evil, is shown through character evolution, my personal views
and experiences in the real world and the source of evil itself.
During the coarse of the story the characters do and say many
things that reveal their inner devil. One of the characters that we see
the most change in is Jack. By watching Jack we witness many acts of
savagery. When Jack first starts to turn to a savage, was when he changed
himself into someone different by putting paint on his face and acting like
a wild animal. This is kind of like Jack's own way of initiating himself
into a diffe .....

A View From The Bridge By Arth
<view this essay>.... and dark hair. He is also very strong and he could easily "load the whole ship by himself."(pg.541) In this play, the author uses plot, dialog, actions and symbolism to emphasize Marco's honor which, in my opinion, is his prominent characteristic.
Throughout the play, we can clearly see that the plot helps us develop Marco's character in our imagination. For example, he is an illegal alien, and this might give the reader a less honorable view of him, and it might justify Eddie's action. But the fact that Marco left his family to give them support and to save his oldest son who is "sick in the chest," (pg. 535) makes the reader forget about his illegal stay an .....

Around every corner Holden sees evil. He looks out on a world which appears completely immoral and unscrupulous. The three days we learn of from the novel place a distressed Holden in the vicinity of Manhattan. The city is decked with decorations and holiday splendor, yet, much to Holden's despair "seldom yields any occasions of peace, charity or even genuine merriment."3 Holden is surrounded by what he views as drunks, perverts, morons and screwballs. These convictions which Holden holds waver very momentarily during onl .....

Eugene Ionesco's "Rhinoceros": True Means Resides In Action Not Words
<view this essay>.... pain of my "rhinocerotic" life.
The only way to really not become a rhinoceros is by making the existential
decision not to do so.
A main theme in Eugene Ionesco's, Rhinoceros, is that true meaning
resides in action rather than in mere words. A resistance to taking action then
results in one's becoming a rhinoceros. Jean illustrates this in the beginning
of Act 2, scene 2, when we see Jean and Berenger bickering. Berenger feels that
Jean isn't looking or feeling well and threatens to get him a doctor. Jean
resists by saying, "You're not going to get the doctor because I don't want the
doctor. I can look after myself." (pp. 62) This refusal comes from h .....
