<view this essay>.... exhibiting that the white male working class intentions of
segregating blacks from the dominant white society. Mobbing inflamed race

involved in mobbing encouraged the riots with claims of “protecting their
women, from amalgamation with blacks” (page 108). The quote expresses in a
basic sense; whites were not to mix with blacks. Associating with Blacks
was considered inappropriate, and the whites had to protect themselves from

Life Experiences In Farewell T
<view this essay>.... As harsh as it may sound, the interment camps were nothing like the famous Nazi interment camps of World War 2. The residents enjoyed relatively comfortable living situations compared to German interment camps, and lived fairly comfortable lives, when compared to the German camps. However, it was still rough, as many families were separated. Farewell to Manzanar is the story of one girl making the difficult transition to womanhood, at a difficult time, at a difficult location. Two of the main life lessons that Jeannie learned during her stay at Manzanar dealt with the issues of her identity of an American against her Japanese heritage, and also with school. .....

The first obstacle Bilbo and his friends run into are the goblins,
wicked and savage creatures, who pillage all who tend to be in their

the dark and dreary caverns!!!

Lyrical Analysis Of The End
<view this essay>.... enough about himself to know it was the only way he would get any peace. What he may not have known is that the real fire he started that night was on the inside, where it could never be put out.
"The End" tells of the impending end of a love affair quite possibly by murder. Its an eleven minute psychosexual epic done entirely in one chord (E). The song is an incredible achievement in music, there's nothing that can even come close to what was done with "The End", in terms of the rhythmic and melodic variation backing a complex story line. It builds to an effect of mood rather than a sequence of events. Morrison's masterpiece was almost pure poetry, which p .....

Being An Outsider
<view this essay>.... those around her when looking at her family. She sees the color of the skins of her mother, father, and sisters, as well as her own color and notices right away that her mother could pass for a white woman. Even though Lorde never fully understands why her mother was so hard on her, I feel that this was one of the main contributors to her knowing and first understanding her outsider status. Lorde looks more like her father, but is never around him much. Her dark color gives rise to her feelings of inadequacy and her mother’s treatment of her made her always feel inferior.
Her first memories of herself are those looked at through eyes that enabled her on .....

The Scarlet Letter: Theme
<view this essay>.... good deeds, such as giving clothes to the poor, sitting at the bedsides of dying people, and helping the sick, she is seen as a kind, good-hearted person who can do the work that other people can not. In people’s minds, the meaning of the “A” changes form “adultery” to “able.” She is finally forgiven of her sin by society, but never forgives herself for it. I believe that God redeems her.
The Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale was Hester’s partner in sin although the public knows not of it and thinks him to be almost a saint. He has mental anguish for the rest of his life and punishes himself by not eating properly, and by beating himself with a whip. Roger Ch .....

The Awakening: A Woman's Fight For Independence
<view this essay>.... powers. First, there is the society's opinion of what a woman's "roles" in life was and how they should act, look, and feel. Second, is her independent nature. The last opposing power she comes across is her undying love for the charming Robert Lebrun.
It is the unwritten rule that a woman should marry, have children, and be happy and content with that as their life. Society portrays this to be a woman's rightful job and duty. A woman should act and look "proper" at all times. This is what Edna is fighting against in this novel. She feels that, though many women agree with this "known" rule, it isn't fair. For six years Edna conforms to these idea .....

A Case Of Needing: Serious Revisions
<view this essay>.... is largely a matter of timing; when the book came out in 1969, the
moral dilemma surrounding illegal abortions was still a hot enough topic to
seem ripped from the headlines. Though abortion certainly remains a hot-
button issue, the debate has shifted. For the time being, at least, the
argument centers on whether or not the act should be legal, not on whether
or not doctors are currently breaking the law by performing them.
The antiquated plot line is not the story's main flaw. The biggest
drawback here is a one-two punch of highly technical prose employed to
relate a thoroughly dull story. Karen Randall, the daughter of an eminent
physician, dies as the resu .....
