Buck was loaded onto an express car to Seattle. On his way to Seattle, he found that a man in a red sweater repeatedly beat him. From then on, I knew that Buck would never forget that experience. In that part of the book, I found out that Buck was now an enraged animal and could only be tamed by repeatedly being hit with a club or a whip.

his exposure to a harsh social climate in which a clear line between
acceptable behavior for white's and black's exists. His swift anger and his
destructive impulses stem from that fear and becomes apparent in the

him to commit a vicious assault on his friend Gus. Bigger commits both of
the brutal murders not in rage or anger, but as a reaction to fear. His
typical fear stems from being caught in the act of doing something

two identities until she awakens to the fact that she needs to be an individual,
but encounters the resistance of society's standards to her desire.
Kate Chopin carefully, though subtly, establishes that Edna does not neglect
her children, but only her mother-woman image. Chopin portrays this idea by
telling the reader "…Mrs. Pontellier was not a mother-woman. The mother-woman
seemed to prevail that summer at Grand Isle". Edna tries on one occasion to
explain to Adele how she feels about her children and how she feels about
herself, which greatly differs from the mother-woman image. She says: "I would

character is experiencing a dream where he interacts with the Coma Baby in his
workplace. This passage, through the words and phrases employed by McInerney as
both dialogue and narration, is strong support for the concept that like the
Coma Baby, the main character wants to avoid facing the harsh realities of life

Glass Menagerie Symbolism
<view this essay>.... at the Wingfield’s apartment. The glass menagerie has a high amount of meaning for all of the characters in this play. “Ultimately, the glass menagerie is symbolic of all their shattered dreams, failing to fulfill their transcendent aspirations, the Wingfields find themselves confined to a wasteland reality, their dreams become a ‘heap of broken images’” (Thompson 15). Just as the menagerie itself is frozen in time, the Wingfields are also. They are restricted to the one way of living that they have practiced as time had passed, so they do not know how to break free of that confinement. All the characters as a whole have tried .....
