Catholicism, or be put to death. This was not a surprise to the Jews of Spain.
Since 1931, there had been anti-Jewish riots throughout Spain. For years, the
Jews had been converting to Christianity to escape religious persecution. These
Jews were called conversos. The twist to this tale is that these conversos
actually were only putting on a front. They still considered themselves Jews.
They practiced in secret.1 The Spanish made every attempt to search out and
punish these conversos. Some Jews chose not to convert and they moved to
Portugal. . Unfortunately, Portugal, in 1497, expelled the Jews from its borders

Frankenstein: The Creator's Faults In The Creation
<view this essay>.... black lips (Shelly 56). Frankenstein, having chosen the parts for
his creature, is the only one possible to blame for its appearance. Martin Tropp
states that the monster is "designed to be beautiful and loving, it is loathsome
and unloved" (64). Clearly it is Frankenstein's lack of foresight in the
creation process to allow for a creature that Frankenstein "had selected his
features as beautiful," (56) to become something which the very sight of causes
its creator to say "breathless horror and disgust filled my heart"(56). He
overlooks the seemingly obvious fact that ugliness is the natural result when
something is made from parts of different corpses and pu .....

Soon after there were some people that got very sick, which made Mr. Rieux very
curious. These reports of these ill people and the death of the rats were the
beginning of the parallelism for this story.
Since Bernard was a doctor he was the first to actually attempt to help
one of these sick people. Michael was his first patient in this matter. He was
the sickest person that the doctor had ever seen. Michael was pale white and

Social Class Distinction In Madame Bovary: A Way Of Categorizing People

make it to the full rank of bourgeois. Because the level of one’s social
class status is determined so much by appearances, an individual can keep
up a good front and be accepted into the circle when they are out of town
where no-one knows the truth. Both Emma and Homais followed this practice
in their pursuits to really belong. “Madame Bovary” is about a sense of
self, a search for personal identity and reality versus illusion. The
symbolism throughout the story is clearly indicative of this fact (Barron’s
5).
To what social class did the characters belong, in reality, in appearan .....
