death to “escape” from pap. The first thing Huck did was to make sure that
pap was far away before starting his getaway. At this point, many children

wanted to make sure that no one would come down the river looking for him,

To Kill A Mockingbird: Controversial Issues
<view this essay>.... its a sin to kill a mockingbird." (pg. 69) The mockingbird is a
symbol for two of the characters in the novel: Tom Robinson and Boo Radley.
The mockingbird symbolizes these two characters because it does not have
its own song. Whereas, the blue jay is loud and obnoxious, the mockingbird

own song, we characterize it only by what the other birds sing. Hence, we
see the mockingbird through the other birds. In the novel, the people of
Maycomb only know Boo Radley and Tom Robinson by what others say about them.
Both of these characters do not really have their own "song" in a sense,
and the .....

Jude The Obscure
<view this essay>.... to give him an identity. As a
result of his relationship with Mr. Phillotson (who leaves for Christminster in
order to become ordained), he finds religion and feels that he can use it to

that this is what they want. People should not be as Jude who becomes obsessed
with religion simply because his mentor Phillotson felt this way. One of the
major reasons that causes Hardy to have these views is that he feels religion
