The Repressive Governments Of Zamiatin's We And Orwell's 1984
<view this essay>.... We.
These novels depict, ". . . mechanized societies whose citizens are deprived of freedom
through physical and psychological conditioning." (Bloom 17) The amazing thing about
these civilizations is that the majority of the citizenry, at least publicly, applauds the
government's totalitarian actions. Both Zamiatin's We and Orwell's 1984 have governments
that repress thought and action through the use of physical and physiological force.
One of the most visible ways the government of the United State is able to control the
thought and actions of its citizens is by the use and abuse of a system by which each
member of society receives a number at birth inste .....

America And I: “Light” And “Dark”
<view this essay>.... darkness symbolizes those things which have negative connotaions. Yezierska uses the notion of darkness to symbolize her feelings of despair, confusion, and the hardships faced by her. On the other hand the image of light is used to symbolize hopes and dreams about her life in America, and the unraveling of her confusion. Yezierska, in using these images, is able to present a clearer picture of the emotions that should be interpreted from the story.
Even from the very beginning of the story Yezierska uses images of light and dark to describe her coming from Russia to America. She describes her hopes for America as “sunlight burning through my darkness”. .....

supervised by the supervisor, if the supervisor is doing all of the work
then what are the subordinates doing. I have found that the same problem
written about in the book has also happened at my office. My supervisor
was killing herself trying to get all of the work done when she should have
been making the subordinates do their own work. This may require the
subordinates to go through a training process or just motivate them to do
the work they know is theirs. The supervisor must learn to give out work
that is not theirs so that they have time to do supervisory functions. (p.

<view this essay>.... unable to talk or read. The monster would just rome the world

Karloff, the monster befriended a blind man. I think he had this friend because
the man could not see the face of the monster.
Mary Shelly's Frankenstein was very different from the movies and T.V.

doctor created the monster he was a work of art.
"I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!," this is what
Victor said when he saw the monster before i .....
