He knows that we have been set down in a frightening universe, full of real demons like death and disease, and perhaps the most frightening thing is the human mind. Horror is "one of the ways we walk our imagination" (King 218). King takes ordinary emotional situations and translates them into violent tales of vampires and ghosts. Something that everyone would like but will probably never come true. This statement is an excellent attention getter. It tells about a dream that everyone would like without singling out any group of people to blame for the dream not coming true. Then as the poem goes on he gets more and more specific. .... that goes into writing. When I read Stafford’s essay on the writing process it was like he was speaking directly to me. Stafford uses a metaphor for fishing to explain the beginning of the writing process. You must be very patient when fishing. Sometimes there is a nibble right away and sometimes it takes a little longer. The second that you feel the nibble you must react in order to hook the fish. The writing process is just like this. The second an idea comes to mind you have to write it down but don’t stop there. You must keep on writing because that idea will lead to another idea and before you know it you will have a complete idea. Stafford explain .....
