In the there was much hope for a possible upheaval of British rule. There had been previous attempts, but the rebellion in 1857 had a much more patriotic feel to it. The energy and collaboration of the various groups in India, at the time, made this attempt seem promising. Their attempt at ending the company's rule seeme ....

Part 2 of Essay
.... Company's army had led to many unsatisfied and discontented soldiers decades before the revolt. There were mutinies by both the Madras army and Bengal army by 1815, and several others followed suit. In the 1850's, many soldiers from the Bengal army were alienated and lost some of their pay and prestige. There were rumors of gun cartridges being greased with animal fat from cows and pigs, which came as an insult to the integrity of the some of the soldiers. The Hindus and Muslims were offended at this attempt ....
