He was a great inventor and mathematician who helped develop the science of geometry as well as being the first scientist to realize the power of the lever. He was also known for inventing the compound pulley, ' screw, and most importantly he discovere ....

It was also said that single-handedly defended the city of Syracuse during a Roman siege by constructing huge lenses to focus the Sun's light on Roman ships and huge cranes to turn them upside down. When the Romans finally broke the siege, was killed by a Roman soldier after snapping at him "Don't disturb my circles", a reference to a geometric figure he had outlined on the sand.
