Conforming Vs. Not Conforming To Society's Expectations
<view this essay>.... be yourself and do whatever you feel like if you don't conform
to society's expectations. You may not be as popular as a conformist, but
you will probably earn more respect for standing out. Non-conformists could
actually have more time and money on their hands for themselves because
they don't need to spend time or money on things that will help them fit in.
I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson's idea, "Whoso would be a man must be a
non-conformist," because man is free to do whatever he wishes--we're not
robots that are programmed to imitate. In other words, we have our own
individual minds and personalities and we need to put our uniqueness to
work. .....

Child Abuse: An Exposition
<view this essay>.... in the car outside. The nightmare begins. His
slimy hands casually slide an ebony cartridge into the VCR as he smiles at you
seductively. You can feel his eyes worming their gaze through your clothes
every time that he looks at you. You feel dirty and violated every time you
think about what he does to you when you are alone. He walks over to the couch
and sits down next to you. His hand slithers it way onto your knee and you
cringe in revulsion. “Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you,” he chides. Your mind
feels panicky as you feel his touch in more intimate places and you scream
involuntarily. His grip tightens as he places his hand over your mouth. “ .....

Animal Rights
<view this essay>.... the
baboon to a metal device, which would force it's head upward at a sixty degree
angle and then crush it with violent force. The baboon would then writhe and
moan before falling silent. This experiment meant to simulate what happens to
human beings in a car crash or a violent head injury.
It isn't right to cause pain, suffering, and certain death to animals just
for our benefit. Many scientists also agree that this experimental procedure
was wrong but only because primates have higher intelligence. I don't think it
is right for any animal of high or low intelligence, to suffer that way. In
other laboratories animals are confined to small cages or loc .....

The Role Of Women In The Church
<view this essay>.... apply that understanding to the church of the
twentieth century.
Many people would dispute the Bible's relevance to contemporary thought in
general, and in particular to the role of women in worship. If the Bible were
not written under divine inspiration, a person or practice is not bound by its
teachings. He or she can therefor pick and choose whatever corresponds to
his/her point of view. However, if the Bible is of divine inspiration, then a
cautious consideration of passages relevant to a particular issue must be
undertaken. Traditions and customs that have arisen after the Bible was written
may thus be carefully scrutinized. Such practices may or may n .....

How Can We Help The Homeless And Should We?: Searching For A Solution
<view this essay>.... how he grew up living poor with
his family and how he wanted to be educated and go through college to get a good
job so he could live well. But he said his parents just didn't have the money
and it was impossible. I felt threatened as did Mike and Kim from the drunken
gestures of this man and thought to myself, if this man wanted to make something
of his life, I mean if he really wanted to, he would try harder and somehow do
wh at he wanted. We tried to leave as soon as possible.
But then I began reading these essays about the homeless and it started
to change my mind. The essay "Virginia's Trap" by Peter Marin especially
effected me because of the way it .....

However, as it is defined today was not considered a policy until President Lydon Johnson issued Executive Order 11246, which required that federal contractors take to ensure the hiring of qualified blacks, women and other minorities in their work forces. The use of was never limited to federal contractors.
The legislative history of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 reveals that during the 1960’s, American blacks and other minorities were denied employment opportunities because of their race, color, sex, religion, and national origin. As a result, minorities and women received lower wages and their rate of unemployme .....

Role Models: A Bright Red Peel On A Rotten Apple
<view this essay>.... could be thinking when watching his role model spit on a umpire when the call is unfavorable? What does that teach the children? Many athletes don't want to be role models, but are forced into it by the media. "Professional athletes should not be role models. Hell, I know drug dealers who can dunk. Can drug dealers be role models too?" Charles Barkley once said about athletes as role models. Athletes are always in the spotlight, whether it's underwear commercials or endorsing french fries. The role models have an undisputed athletic ability, but all too many times they are only a bright red peel on the rotting core of the American role model apple.
