Imperialism
<view this essay>.... summed up as 'Gold, Gospel and Glory'. By 1900 the European nations held a dominant position in both Asia and Africa. They tended to claim that their imperialist activities were BENEFICIAL to their subject peoples. How could this be so if the rivalries between imperialist powers generated tension, especially between Britain and Germany, which would eventually contribute to the first world war?
My opinion is that is a natural phenomenon occuring in social species. I mean, look at ants... they'll take over other nests and steal the eggs to eliminate competition and give themselves a boost. It's survival. Humans are that way, only more complex and less inst .....

Impact Of Abuse
<view this essay>.... "Is this right or wrong?" posses the greatest conflict
within the childs mind. The abuse feels so wrong yet the abuser insits
it is okay, taking advantage of the childs mistrust and naivety. Below
are the thoughts of an abused victim as she thinks back to her abuse and
questions her father. It is an example of this mistrust as well as the
confusion which goes through a childs mind.
Since I was a little ten-year-old child, I had to deceive and hide from
the world and my mother that my father took a sexual interest in me.
Remember how you taught me that art of deceit? First you put me in a
situation that had to be kept a secret then you pledged me t .....

Guardian Ad Litem
<view this essay>.... investigator, a guardian learns as much as possible about
the child' background (i.e. school, church, friends, and any other
people/organizations that affect the child). As a monitor, a guardian
makes sure social services agencies, and any other organizations involved
with the child are meeting their responsibilities to the child. As a
protector, a guardian prevents insensitive questioning in the courts that
is very often commonplace. As a reporter, a guardian is a liaison between
the child and the courts, presenting written reports and recommendations to
help act in the child's best interests. Finally, as a spokesperson, a
guardian makes sure the child's wi .....

Bubonic Plague
<view this essay>.... Most of these were without basis or fact and relied on myths and rumors. Theories for the causes and blames came from ignorance and hate, two horrible things married by fear. Some of the cures were not much better than the plague itself. The plague was transmitted to humans by fleas from infected rats that nested in people's roofs (Matthew 154). Fourteenth century man had no concept of how the disease was spread or how it could be stopped. The plague was transmitted to western Europe from China along trade routes (Matthew 154). Once the plague had reached the coast of Europe, it was soon transmitted to the countryside through the commercial trade networks .....

Quotas Are Outdated In Affirmative Action Programs
<view this essay>.... and women
is “so steep a decline that it almost certainly reflects some change from
the blatantly racist and nearly universal hostile white prejudices of the
recent past” (Feagin & Feagin, 1978, pp. 6-7). If America's economy is to
continue to survive it will most definitely have to hire on merit alone,
and not be bothered by trivial laws that are outda ted.
The origination of Affirmative Action is from the Civil Rights Act
of 1964, Title VI and VII. Title VI states “no person in the United
States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or natural origin, be excluded
from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to
discrimination .....

Constitutional Convention: Day By Day Occurrences
<view this essay>.... Virginia Plan recommended a bicameral
legislature with representation to be determined by the size of the
population in each area. The lower body of this legislature would be
elected by voters while the upper house would be elected by the members of
the lower house.
Every night the delegates go down to the taverns at Head House Square
and discuss what they have heard. I will debate with them the notions
which we have been privy to. One of my personal goals of this convention
is to talk freely with Ben Franklin about his ideas about government. Mr.
Franklin has traveled widely and has seen many nations. He is old and wise
and I want to talk to him be .....

Materialism Vs Idealism
<view this essay>.... space, "...where there is empty space, there matter is not...", and
these two things make up the entire universe. These invisible particles
come together to form material objects, you and I are made of the same
atoms as a chair or a tree. When the tree dies or the chair is thrown into
a fire the atoms do not burn up or die, but are dispersed back into the
vacuity. The atoms alone are without mind or secondary qualities, but they
can combine to form living and thinking objects, along with sound, color,
taste, etc... Atoms form life, consciousness, and the soul, and when our
body dies there is nothing left of the latter except for its parts, which
randomly bec .....

Affirmitive Action
<view this essay>.... of the lowering of standards
and expectations imposed on them by businesses and educational institutions due
to the cries of racism and sexism in standards by advocates of AA. Ernest Van
Den Haag put it best, when he declares that. " Affirmative action has done as
much injury to black scholars as to black students." Isn't it time to return to
hiring people on individual merit, and return the millions spent on Affirmative
action. That money could be better spent on bringing minority and female
applicants up to standards. I believe the most qualified person should be
awarded the job, regardless of race, ethnicity, or disability.Affirmative action
policies do no .....
