The History Of Music
<view this essay>.... Towards the end of the ninth century dots and dashes and squiggles were written over the words in the church books. These signs, called neumes, showed the direction in which the melody should go. But they were still very vague. About 900 A.D. the music was made a little easier to read. The neumes were written at certain distances above or below the horizontal red line, representing the note F, to show how high or low the note should be sung.
Then the staff was invented by a monk called Guido d'Arezzo. This was made of four lines. A method of notation that made it possible to show the length of each note was developed in the thirteenth and fourteenth centurie .....

A Capella?
Some musical dictionaries indicate that the Italian a cappella is preferred
over the Latin a capella (one "p") yet both are technically correct. Why do
those dictionaries muddy the waters with two spellings?
The phrase was first used in Italian Catholic churches, where Latin was the
language for sacred text. Thus, the Latin spelling for 'in the style of the
chapel' - a capella - has some historical basis. However, most other

music, and particularly spirituals, remained in fashion. "The Green
Pastures" is the best known example of this trend. As dramas about black
life took on greater importance in the 1930's, they often borrowed from the
musical comedy traditions of the 1920's. Serious drama, about black life in
the rural south or in northern cities, managed to blend music into its
structure. In the 20's many of the dramas that had to do with black life,
music became a necessity. In the 30's this trend prevailed, musical
elements of Afro-American culture were showcased primarily in dramas
rather than in musicals. .....

The Consumer And The Gimmick
<view this essay>.... it and are left looking for something new to fulfill our cravings. This is
when we, the monster consumers of music, decide to take our interest to the next
hit song. It's not all our fault. You have to put at least some blame on the
bands themselves. They feel that it is part of their job to indulge our wants.
We as lovers of what these songwriters do are appalled and disgusted by hearing
anything but the best from our favorite bands. Once we have what we want it's
not long before we want more. This is because we consume the musicians' talents
like a fast food happy meal. We open the box, take out the toy, throw away the
contents, and then bitch about be .....

unjustified when Charly shot to No 1 in the National Dance Charts and to
no3 in the Gallup Top 40. 'Charly' inspired a string of copycat records,
and triggered the notoriously heated 'is rave dead' debate. Amid all the
furore it was easy to miss the fact that Charly was one of the most
successful dance records of the time, and far better than any of the
opportunist tunes that came in it's wake. Twenty-two year old Liam Howlett
is the musical force behind the Prodigy sound, although there are three
other members who contribute to the live performance - Maxim Reality,
Leeroy Thornhill and Keith Flint Liam wa .....

The Neo-Freudian whose theory I feel related most closely to the little information that was given in 's biography would have to be Karen Horney. Due to the fact that she focused on the social relationship between a parent and a child, and believed that early relationships in life, particularly ones between parent and child, have a strong effect on the way a person's personality develops.
