The Tempest: Magic

500 years of witch-hunts, a turning point occurred in 1584, at the publication
of Reginald Scot's The Discouerie of Witchcrafte (The Discovery of Witchcraft).
This book was the first major book to denounce witch-hunts and their ringleaders,
and unquestionable the first book in English to actually hypothesize about the
methods of these so-called witches. It contained one chapter of approximately
twenty pages describing what we might view as unsophisticated, old-time magic
tricks.
One would assume that it was this text, and texts succeeding this (The
Art of Juggling, written by Samuel Ridd in 1610 also presented a .....

The Woman's Role In Macbeth
<view this essay>.... acts of ugliness and evil to achieve disorder. In
addition, we see that women can cloud reality, thus causing deceptiveness in the
"fog and filthy air."
In Act I, scene 3, we again see the feminine presence through the
witches. This time, however, they are casting spells on a poor sailor because
his wife cursed one of the witches and refused to give her some chestnuts.
Chances are, that if women are fighting, a man will suffer for it. Just then,
Macbeth and Banqou see the witches and engage them in conversation. The witches
greet Macbeth with, "Thane of Glamis" (his present title), "Thane of Cawdor"
(his soon-to-be announced title), and the prophesy .....

Comparison Of Book And Movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"
<view this essay>.... to movie. His past is a vital piece of information contributing
to the mood and understanding of the story. In the movie, Bromden is nothing
more than a crazy Indian who doesn't want to talk so pretends to be deaf and
dumb. Much of the understanding and respect is lost in the transition between
book and movie. In the book, Bromden has flashbacks to his childhood, lighting
on significant points in his childhood. His background is never even brushed
upon in the movie. Of course it would have been nearly impossible to tell of
Bromdens life in a movie, much less show the world from his point of view as in
the book. Bromden is still a very interesting charact .....

King Lear: Lear The Tragic Hero

possesses a tragic flaw which initiates the tragedy. The fall of the hero is
not felt by him alone but creates a chain reaction which affects everyone
around him. Besides, the hero must experience suffering and calamity slowly
which would contrast his happier times. The suffering and calamity
instantaneously caused chaos in his life and eventually leads to his death.
Finally, the sense of fear and pity to the tragic hero must appear in the play
as well. This makes men scared of blindness to truths which prevents them from
knowing when fortune or something else would happen on them.
Lear, the king of England would be the tragic her .....

Educating Rita – Coursework Piece
<view this essay>.... Denny, think that she “should have had a baby by now; everyone expects it.”
She has changed her name from Susan to Rita, which although she doesn’t realise it, is part of her attempt to change her personality. She says “They walk in the hairdressers an’ half an hour later they expect to walk out a different person.” Here she is being ironic and hypocritical. This helps the audience to realise that she has a lot to learn and emphasises the ‘problems’ Rita is trying to overcome.
In one of the most revealing passages in the play she says - “There was always somethin’ …tellin’ me I might have got it all wrong. But I’d just play another record or buy another dre .....

Julius Caesar: Conspiracy Theory
<view this essay>.... How can any of the conspirators, except for the well intentioned and easily influenced Brutus, who plot against Caesar justify their actions without spouting on about "the common good, and the honor of Rome?" Most, if not all of them, seem to have the ability to gain from Caesar's demise. Even if they were all acting for the greater good, no man can be held accountable for crimes he might commit in the future.
In a tragic play, the protagonist is plagued by a "fatal flaw" in his or her personality. Usually the flaw leads to the protagonist's demise or downfall. Brutus' fatal flaw is that he is too trusting. Brutus is an honorable man, who foolishly bel .....
