Creon's Role Of King And His Responsibilities
<view this essay>.... of his present role. First, he says, "Consider, first, if you think any
one/ would choose to rule and fear rather than rule and sleep" (36.584-585). By
this, Creon means that the main difference between his position and the king's
is that of the accompanying action to ruling. In both positions, one is a ruler
who holds great power over the state. However, the king is placed in a greater
place of accountability to the people. This accountability is what Creon says
inspires "fear" in the king, for if affairs of state or of the people fall into
decline, the king is the first person whom the citizenry look to blame. This is
analogous to executive lead .....

The Meaning Of Chow Yun-Fat (It's In His Mouth)
<view this essay>.... Woo's over-the-top classic, Hard Boiled (the rough literal translation
of the Chinese title is Spicy-Handed Gun God), Chow plays with a toothpick.
There are few movie moments more violently cool than the shot of Chow, a gun in
each hand, sliding down a stair banister blasting a dozen bad guys while letting
his toothpick hang just so from the side of his mouth. In God of Gamblers, Chow
plays a gambler who gets a bump on his head that turns him into some quasi-
autistic prodigy, like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. Chow retains his intuitive
skill at playing cards, but now he must be pacified by constant pieces of
chocolate that he scarfs greedily, goofy smile on .....

Medea: Looking For Revenge
<view this essay>.... her barbarian origins, and how she deals
with the pain of killing her children.
As an introduction to the play, the status of women in Greek society
should be briefly discussed. In general, women had very few rights. In the
eyes of men, the main purposes of women in Greek society were to do housework
such as cooking and cleaning, and bear children. They could not vote, own
property, or choose a husband, and had to be represented by men in all legal
proceedings. In some ways, these Greek women were almost like slaves. There is
a definite relationship between this subordination of women and what transpires
in the play. Jason decides that he wants to .....

The Swamp Dwellers: Tragic Flaw Of Igwezu
<view this essay>.... to those people because it explains how and why nature does what it does. The role of the Kadiye was one of great reverence because he was believed to be one with the spirits. “Igwezu: With you, holy one, my questions must be roundabout. But you will unravel them, because you speak with the voice of gods…?” The Caddie was never to be questioned or disobeyed. For generations the townsfolk gave of their harvest to the Kadiye so he could appease the serpent. “Igwezu: And ever since I began to till the soil, did I not give the soil his due? Did I not bring the first oil upon the altar?” No one questioned where the goods went, because it was almost blas .....

The Modern World Needs A Don Quixote
<view this essay>.... he stumbled upon the oddest fancy that ever entered a madman's brain. He believed it was necessary, both for his own honor and for the service of the state, that he should become knights-errant and roam through the world with his horse and armor in quest of adventures" (Starkle 17). In Part I Don Quixote of La Mancha (added the name of his kingdom like Amadius) equips himself with arms and armor and rides forth on Rosinante, a broken-down horse, to challenge evil wherever he may find it. A peasant, named Sancho Panza serves him as squire. In his deranged state, Don Quixote sets himself the task of defending orphans, protecting maidens and widows, .....

King Oedpius: Oedpius A Person Of Great Importance
<view this essay>.... the
Sphinx. If he were an excellent leader, it seems curious that the only
notable thing about his kingship was an act that took place fifteen years
and four of his children ago. Was it really Sophocles' intention that we
regard Oedipus as a "good" man? Oedipus accuses Tiresias and Creon, two
innocent men, of conspiring to dethrone him and take over the country.
Would a "good" man do this, lacking any evidence but his own suspicions?
Would a "good" man wish his own brother-in-law dead when no one could even
testify to his guilt? Would a "good" man threaten a timid shepherd with
pain and death merely because he was hesitant to reveal the harsh realities .....

Death In Hamlet
<view this essay>.... where the son died out of honor and loyalty during his quest to avenge his father's death. Hamlet died a morally acceptable death that was a result of his loyalty as a son for the honor of his father. King Hamlet returned from his grave as a ghost to tell Hamlet that he was "Doomed for a certain term to walk the night…Till the foul crimes done in (his) day of nature were burnt and purged away". In order for King Hamlet to leave purgatory, Hamlet was required to seek "revenge (for) his (father's) foul and most unnatural murder" through killing Claudius, the murderer "with traitorous gifts" who killed King Hamlet. Claudius became aware that Hamlet knew t .....

Fate In Romeo And Juliet
<view this essay>.... is always the direct
cause of a bad choice or mishap, and not fate itself.
One of the most noted instances where fate is blamed for a mishap is
when Romeo cries out the he supposedly is fortune's fool. He claims that fate
has brought on Mercutio's death, and has lead him to kill Tybalt in revenge.
In Act 3, Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is seen to be upset at
Mercutio's death and predicts that the “days black fate on more days doth
depend.” (III, I, 118) Tybalt then re-enters and Romeo becomes more upset that
Tybalt is triumphant with Mercutio being dead (III, I, 121). As Romeo becomes
overwhelmed with Mercutio's death and Tybalt's joy over it, he .....
