Freedom
<view this essay>.... state of nature in which life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. Hobbes' view started off when he stated that the first principle of human behavior was egoism, or self-interest, and it was this egoism, that was the root of all social conflict. Although Hobbes stated that all people are roughly equal, still, if someone has more, others have less. The insecurity regarding what you can keep leads to violence. "where there are no restraints on people's actions, it leads to the war of 'all against all'" says Hobbes. So, Hobbes is basically saying, any state is better than the state of nature, be glad that the state is there. Even if it is a corr .....

Put Me In, Coach...!
<view this essay>.... season.
The most stressful part of this job, in both softball and baseball, is complying with the specific rules that must be followed during a game. Planning the line-up takes a lot of thought and careful consideration. Every player on the roster must play at least one inning of the game, or loss by forfeiture will result.
As in both sports, the umpire's judgements are official. Parents think they have the last say with coaches. Wrong! A coach cannot please everyone. Few of the parents will complain of their child having certain disadvantages. Among all types of criticism a coach faces, the one heard the most is that their child has not been g .....

How Toxic Waste Affects Our Natural Environment
<view this essay>.... That 15%
may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the millions of tons of
toxic waste that we produce every year, that 15% is enormous. The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that we produce one ton of
toxic wastes for every single person living in Canada every year. That
means that the 15% represents about 4.2 million tons of toxic waste.
Toxic wastes which are dumped in improper sites can seep into
underground water supplies and contaminate huge areas. If the land that is
intoxicated supports plant life, most of the plants and trees will die off.
If the area is lived on by humans, it could cause serious illness or death.

Things Aren't Always What They Seem
<view this essay>.... In a polite manner, the teacher told me to sit next to those girls at
the corner. At first they were quiet and then the whispers began. “Oye chulo,”
they began to call me. I didn't know what to do, so I did what any guy with a
great girlfriend would do, played dumb. Then they began telling each other that
I was probably rich and conceited. Their remarks about my clothing and the
color of my eyes and hair, surprised me. I was not upset because they were
Hispanic. I am sure that I would have been mad if an Anglo-saxon girl would
have talked bad about a hispanic guy or girl.
Another time hispanics thought I was Anglo-saxon, was when my best

Writing Process
<view this essay>.... ways. I believe that this keeps the student from expressing their true feelings about the topic. They end up thinking more about how much they hate the assignment or the teacher. I do agree that you must teach the students how to write. That is where the English textbooks come into play. There, they can expand the student’s mind with new ideas. Whether or not they decide to use them is up to the individual.
In Elbow’s writing, he says, “The most effective way I know to improve your writing is to do free writing exercises regularly” (Elbow 62). Because I am not one to write in a journal everyday, I cannot personally agree or disagree w .....
