Anxiety increases. Students lose initiative and the confidence to take the next step to expand their knowledge. Without a solid foundation math becomes painful and is avoided. This process quickly becomes a downward spiral leading to math anxiety as early as third grade. Personally, I have never experienced math anxiety that I know of. But, to reassure myself of this I took a math anxiety self test that I discovered and I scored a 15, which you can compare that to the enclosed self test.
