Young Voters Showing Apathy
<view this essay>.... and trust in American politics.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, voters between the ages of 18 and 24 have had the worst voter turnout rate of any age group in every congressional and presidential election since 1980. For example, of the 10 million eligible voters between the ages of 21 to 24, only 37.2 percent were registered to vote in the 1994 congressional elections and only 16.5 percent voted. Although they fared a little better in the presidential elections with 38.5 percent voting in the 1996 Clinton-Dole showdown, it is still worrying that not even half the eligible voters in that age group exercised their right to vote. The 60s, on the other han .....

Computer Viruses
<view this essay>.... typically referred to as viruses although technically the computing term virus actually refers to a specific type of pest program. Other types are called Trojan horses and worms. The difference between these pest programs is how they behave when attacking a computer system and I am going to look at each type individually to explain the difference starting with viruses.
A computer virus is a program that is designed to replicate and spread itself on its own, preferably without anybody knowing it exists. They spread by attaching themselves to other programs (such as your word processing or spreadsheet programs). Then when a file with a virus attached to it is .....

Artificial Turf: A Dangerous Playing Surface
<view this essay>.... impersonating natural grass in the modern sports
world. Born in the 1960's out of a military project to improve the physical
fitness of urban teenagers, AstroTurf, along with its foreign and domestic
impostors that were eventually squeezed out of the industry, was developed as a
cheaper, more durable, low maintenance alternative to grass as a playing surface
for football, baseball, and soccer. The original sales pitch rang true with all
the sincerity of a beer commercial: All the fun of the regular grass, with only
a third of the maintenance. Monsanto, AstroTurf's original manufacturer, had an
ace in hole as well; grass doesn't grow very well in domes. Seduce .....

Stowaways
<view this essay>.... an unpaying passenger on a merchant
ship. Today, however, ships have become ever larger, the maritime world has
become increasingly regulated, and the issue of stowaways has become a major
problem.
There are really several reasons why stowaways have become more of a problem.
The real driving factor is really an economic one (Wiener). With all of the
political and economic strife in the world today, there is a huge population of
people who are just tired of being on the rock bottom of the economic ladder,
and are desperate for a better life in a different place. This is really the
basic reason why someone would want to spend a week or so crammed into a .....

Ancient Roman Meals
<view this essay>.... porridge or ground into flour
for bread.
Lunch, or prandium was usually taken at noon. It was usually nothing
more than a piece of bread accompanied by cold meat, vegetables, and fruit
washed down with a glass of wine. Both ientaculum and prandium were so short
there was no need to set the table or wash ones hands.
The only serious meal was the evening dinner or cena. Dinner time was
practically the same for all Romans due to the lack of artificial light. Dinner
was after the bath at the end of the eigth hour in winter and at the ninth in
summer. The food is mostly cold,-breads, salads, olives, cheeses, and meats
remaing from last nights dinner. Occa .....

Reforestation
<view this essay>.... forests are cut down. One is to benefit
economically, with furniture and home building. But there is also another
reason. Arguments say "the United States could help slow the atmospheric
accumulation of carbon dioxide by replacing old-growth forests with faster-
growing young trees". A new study of young and old forests says how this
is in fact not true. Loggers have said that new trees pull the carbon
dioxide better than old trees, and this may seem true, but it is not. There
is one point being overlooked from all of this. The older, larger trees
can store much, much more carbon dioxide than a new tree could. By cutting
and burning these magnificent s .....

How To Produce A High School Newspaper
<view this essay>.... I just
forget about this and go home? The first day of class was the most nerve
wracking and scariest day I have ever had to experience during the course
of my short-lived newspaper career. Coordinating a high school newspaper
staff and creating a newspaper every three weeks is a lot of fun, but on
the other hand, it involves a lot frustration. Much goes into producing a
high school newspaper, but most important is the ability to manage and
organize a group of people within an allotted amount of time. Patience is
also crucial in order to understand and help other staff members. However,
when it’s completed, the satisfaction is its own reward.
Before understand .....

Aristotle: A Comprehensive View On Nature And Society
<view this essay>.... man and [or] an individual horse." Aristotle still
classifies universals as substances, for they define what constitutes the
substance, and without these universals, a substance would not be what is.
There are four characteristics of substances: a substance is a “this”, not a
qualification or a 'such' (which stresses individuality); a substance has no
contraries to it (there are no opposites of a substance); a substance does not
admit more or less (there are not degrees of a substance); and a substance can
admit contraries while remaining numerically one.
In the Physics, Aristotle addresses that which constitutes Natural
Objects as substances. He states th .....
